Main issues - erosion, flooding and angry citizens Citizens fear new flooding

IWW Amsterdam Dr Tony Persson, 2011-11-01 What to expect in the future – Climate scenarios for SW Sweden Temperature: annual mean temperature will increase with 2,5 – 3,0 °C until 2050 Winter: ~ +4 °C Summer: ~ +2 °C Precipitation: annual precipitation will increase with 15-20 % Winter: ~ +40 % Summer: ~ -10 %
17
IWW Amsterdam Dr Tony Persson, 2011-11-01 Some possible consequenses for the Riseberga Creek in a future climate Change of hydrological regime – more discharge and increased flood frequency during winter - less discharge and decreased flood frequency during summer, but maybe an increased precipitation intensity during summer could lead to more severe flooding Changed conditions for aquatic habitats – warmer water and (even) larger fluctuations in discharge, water velocity and water depth in 2050 than today Decreased water quality – warmer water and higher ground water levels that might lead to more saturated surface runoff and more erosion and sediment transport
18
IWW Amsterdam Dr Tony Persson, 2011-11-01 Modelling of flooding and the effects of possible measures Risk- and vulnerability approach: Climate/Land use scenarios weather generator hydrological modelling hydraulic modelling flooding Using the modelling results to quantify the impact of a wide range of possible measures
