www.cofret-project.eu COFRET – core questions to be investigated What are the gaps in existing CO2 footprint calculation tools along supply chains? How can the gaps be closed? How can the existing CO 2 calculation tools be technically harmonized? What data has to be provided by global operators for the calculation of CO 2 footprints of freight transport along supply chains? What are the requirements for a successful implementation of the COFRET methodology?

5
www.cofret-project.eu Work Plan STEP1: Analysis of components of existing tools for CO 2 calculation in freight transport (mode related, SCM related,…) –What is calculated? –What is included? –Rules and assumptions, derived parameters – based on expert/ stakeholder/user interviews –Logic behind calculations and sources of used data (data availability and quality) STEP2: Stakeholder-workshop (shipping companies, LSPs, project’s advisory board members and test cases partners)
6
www.cofret-project.eu Work Plan STEP3: Development of basic principles for COFRET methodology (“common denominator”) STEP4: Workshop with specialists of development of SCM systems and existing CO 2 calculation methodologies –Development of approach for bridging identified gaps –Identification of and recommendation for complementing elements for transport mode related emission calculation approach –Development of methodology for emission calculation along supply chains; Specification of data format and quality requirements
7
www.cofret-project.eu Work Plan STEP5: Development of the COFRET methodology for technical harmonisation of CO 2 calculation of freight transport; mode based as well as supply chain based, applicable in Europe and globally –Development of a prototype software tool –tests (test cases) with stakeholders –Research backed-up guidance for industry as well as for decision makers within governmental bodies and stakeholders –Definition of requirements for successful implementation and application
