Nouns Words that describe a person place or thing
Examples: desk, table, John, Europe, ice cream There are abstract nouns too Feelings: happiness, sadness, joy, depression, pain Qualities and Characteristics: honesty, bravery, beauty More examples of abstract nouns: wealth, success, education, friendship, marriage, summer

Verbs Action words; examples: go, drink, jump, read
These words can be in different tenses: present, past, future I go, I went, I will go Verbs can also be in different forms: Active Voice, Passive Voice, Infinitive, and Gerund I ate the cake The cake was eaten I like to eat cake I like eating cake

Adjectives These are words that describe nouns:
Beautiful painting Large room Yellow paint They are the same for both singular and plural nouns. No –s is required. Beautiful paintings

Adverbs Describe verbs They also describe adjectives
The dog ran quickly. They also describe adjectives This movie is very long.

Prepositions Prepositions are little words like:
By, with, at, to, toward, for, from, in, on… They are followed by NOUNS
