After realizing the importance of Distance Education, Directorate of Distance Education was set up at CIIT to establish a ‘Virtual Campus’ just like other campuses. The virtual Campus was then established in June 2008. The distance Education provided at the Virtual Campus, CIIT makes use of the latest technology and applications, for example, internet and video conferencing. The objective of establishing Distance Education at COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT) is to promote Distance Education through e-learning using modern Information and Communication Technologies, to enhance quality of education and to optimize the services of qualified, experienced teachers and researchers at CIIT, and to contribute towards the knowledge based economy of the country/nation. >> About CIIT has by now, produced more than 6000 graduates. With a current enrolment of about students and more than 1100 faculty members, it is now the 5th top ranking university in Pakistan. CIIT, at present has six campuses, one each at Islamabad, Abbottabad, Lahore, Wah , Attock and Sahiwal. After realizing the importance of Distance Education, Directorate of Distance Education was set up at CIIT to establish a ‘Virtual Campus’ just like other campuses. 15 Effect Of ICT Positive effects of ICT Improve academic skills
Improve students attitude Enthusiasm and engagement Richer class room content Improve student in retention Independent learners and starters Negative effect of ICT One issue is that Brain-dead or less social form looking at computer screen all day

16 Current Difficulties facing ICT in Higher Education
Huge number of students Low enrollment rate ( relatively ) Insufficienty infrastucture Information, Text books..... are unavailable Incompatitability with market needs. Traditional teaching styles 1
