1. www.suffolklearningconsortium.org Workshop Overview “If you are suffering from information overload (or are a technophobe) and would like to find out about how we used E-Guides to introduce the benefits of using ICT (Information Communication Technology), including a painless way to maintain and produce your CPD (Continuous Professional Development) records, to Third Sector learning providers in Suffolk, then join us for this friendly workshop in plain English.”

2. www.suffolklearningconsortium.org Workshop Objectives To share our experiences on: Educating technophobes Introducing ICT into learning delivery Introducing REfLECT as a CPD tool Introducing REfLECT as a VLE To keep it light and enjoyable!

3. www.suffolklearningconsortium.org Background The Suffolk Learning Consortium was formed in April 2007, funded by LSC/ESF Single point of contact for Third Sector learning in Suffolk Now has over 100 members Successfully completed LSC PQQ and is delivering LSC ‘Learning Champions’ contract Delivering Workforce Development through Train to Gain Founder member of Learn East

4. www.suffolklearningconsortium.org Background SAVO awarded Capital ICT funding in 2007 to provide an ICT suite with interactive whiteboard Completed E-Guides training in Spring 2008 Suffolk Learning Consortium awarded CaMeL funding in 2008 to provide: 8 interactive whiteboards around Suffolk 1 portable interactive whiteboard 1 student voting system
6
5. www.suffolklearningconsortium.org Background Co-manage NLDC capital and revenue funding with Suffolk County Council In 2008 provided £30,000 capital awards to 21 consortium members, including: 1 ICT suite upgrade 1 interactive whiteboard 1 portable interactive whiteboard 3 student voting systems
7
6. www.suffolklearningconsortium.org The Issues Having provided a significant amount of ICT to support learning delivery we needed to provide training to ensure that the equipment is used to its full extent We were aware, both from our own research and from our E-Guides training, that a significant number of ‘teachers’ are resistant to using ICT As an ‘IfL Connect’ partner we needed to give our members guidance on completing their CPD
8
7. www.suffolklearningconsortium.org Our Action Plan Attend IfL briefings on REfLECT Load data onto REfLECT to use as a case study Produce presentation on interactive whiteboard, student voting system and REfLECT Deliver presentation at 12 venues across Suffolk
9
8. www.suffolklearningconsortium.org The Challenges The IfL briefing on REfLECT was not in a very logical order and was quite ‘functional’ so we had to carry out a lot of work to make it more user friendly Some of the venues for the presentation did not have internet access so the presentation had to be wholly in PowerPoint Not everyone would be able to attend the presentations so we had to make the information easily accessible

26. www.suffolklearningconsortium.org How did we change the briefing? We changed the IfL briefing content to: make it more personal highlight the personal benefits of using REfLECT We used a live REfLECT account containing real data to give a more meaningful demonstration Where possible we demonstrated the live system, to supplement the presentation
28
27. www.suffolklearningconsortium.org Our Briefing Logging on Overview and navigation tools - about me tools - my tags Uploading files to REfLECT Logging a CPD activity Creating blogs
29
28. www.suffolklearningconsortium.org Our Briefing Basic searching in REfLECT Sharing assets with peers and colleagues Tagging assets and advanced searching Creating a web folio Creating a CPD record Sharing assets and your CPD record
30
29. www.suffolklearningconsortium.org ICT for CBT Our interactive whiteboard training highlighted not only the advantages to learners, but also the advantages to teachers in providing easy data to include in their CBT Highlighting the data storage and sharing functions of REfLECT stimulated people to use the system as a cost-effective VLE
31
30. www.suffolklearningconsortium.org Did it work? By ‘selling’ CBT and REfLECT on the back of ICT training made it more ‘joined up’ and acceptable Even our most committed technophobes became enthusiastic Only time will tell!
32
31. www.suffolklearningconsortium.org Any Questions?
