About the course Spanish II is designed so that students continue to gain confidence in their Spanish communicative abilities. Students will be taught listening and reading comprehension skills and will learn to write and speak in Spanish. Students will practice and learn Spanish in real-world contexts. Relevance and practicality are emphasized.

About the course Spanish IV is designed to prepare students for Advanced Placement Spanish courses or college level work. Students will be taught listening and reading comprehension skills and will learn to write and speak in Spanish. Students will practice and learn Spanish in real-world contexts. Relevance and practicality are emphasized.

Honors Classes Tennessee has outlined a standard for honors classes so that the parents, teachers, and students can clearly see what makes “honors” courses different from standard college prep courses. Most of the new standards have to do with the amount of responsibility and choice granted to honors students. I have listed several activities that students will be involved in that meet the criteria for honors courses in your child’s syllabus.

Students will review: ◦Greetings and introductions ◦How to describe others ◦How to express wants and needs ◦How to say what they like and don’t like ◦How to say the date and tell time ◦How to describe the weather ◦Family vocabulary ◦Food vocabulary and how to order in a restaurant ◦How to shop or discuss costs

Course Content Students will learn: -Talking about daily activities -Talking and complaining about chores -Talking about how long people have been doing activities -Talking about what people should do in school -Talking about the past and their childhood -Giving commands -Discussing healthy living -Talking about things they do around town -Narrating a story in the past

Grading and Expectations Grades will be earned as students complete daily work, participate in class, and compile their portfolios. 4 &1/2 weeks portfolios will include all quizzes, tests, compositions, presentations and projects assigned for that unit. Grades will be assigned based on a points system. For every grading period the students’ grades will be determined by the following weighted scale: Portfolio30% Tests and quizzes25% Projects25% Homework and Participation20% 100% Sumner County policy mandates that the student’s final grade will be calculated as follows: 1st nine weeks 40% 2nd nine weeks 40% Final exam 20%
