4
Gutter: the space for the binding of two pages Headline: the title or identifying information Pull-quote: a statement that is separated and printed in larger type
5
DPS: (double page spread) Pages are designed together, since that is how the reader will see them Folio: the page number—easiest way to incorporate the theme Columns: pages are arranged in column formats to keep page organized White space: empty space on the page to keep it from being crowded
6
1 to 3 sentences per paragraph 1 idea per paragraph Each quote is a separate paragraph. All verbs are PAST TENSE.
7
Each page should have a dominant photo. Choose interesting, action shots. Use photos that tell the story of the group on that page. Crop photos to eliminate distracting or boring content in the picture. Make sure each photo has a caption.
8
You will be assigned pages to write copy and take photos. Editors will supervise and check all of your work.
9
Maintain continuity in the book. ◦ Theme is included throughout the book. ◦ Assigned fonts are used for headlines, copy, captions, pull-quotes. ◦ Layouts, styles & colors must be correct. Check writing quality ◦ All copy is grammatically correct. ◦ All copy is written in past tense. ◦ No inappropriate copy is included. Photos are not blurry & cropped when needed. Some staffs have specialized editors.

Students & staff pay money for this yearbook and expect top quality. Yearbooks are kept for decades, preserving memories of this time of students’ lives. The yearbook represents the school in the community.
