5 Each person in the room has: Regular Standard Twin Bed Desk Desk Chair Chest-of-Drawers Closet Space Data jack One phone jack per room (in Quads there are two). One cable jack (basic cable) Blinds All residence halls have wireless internet and wired Ethernet connections FALL MOVE-IN INFORMATION

6 What To Bring  Personal Electronics (computer, TV)  Toiletries  Towels, sheets, bedding  Laundry needs, under the bed storage  Items for decoration (posters, curtains)  Landline phone  Small refrigerator (3.6 cubic foot max)  Window fan  Carpet or rug What Not To Bring ×Lofts ×Candles or Incense ×Hotplates ×Halogen Lamps ×Microwaves ×Air-Conditioners & Space Heaters ×Pets ×Weapons or anything resembling a weapon (including pellet and air soft guns) FALL MOVE-IN INFORMATION

7 Room Assignments will be made available beginning Friday, July 19 at 8:30am Go to www.reslife.umd.eduwww.reslife.umd.edu Click on “Log In” Link in upper left hand corner of website and log in to receive room assignment and roommate information Rooms are assigned in the order students’ housing agreements are received Students in Living-Learning Programs assigned with their program unless otherwise requested Roommate requests--all students should e-mail reslife@umd.edu by 6/30 for best consideration (requests are not guaranteed).reslife@umd.edu Contact the Assignments Office for questions and concerns regarding room assignments ROOM ASSIGNMENTS

8 Your student will have one, two, or three roommates, depending on their particular assignment Encourage your student to contact their roommates before arrival There will also be opportunities for roommates to learn more about each other during opening First Floor Meeting Fall Welcome activities Community Living Agreements The best way to have a good roommate is to be a good roommate-- communicate, be flexible, and negotiate. Encourage your student to talk about issues with their roommates before they come up ROOMMATES

10 What We Provide Entrance doors locked 24/7 Triple barrier access card/key system Call boxes outside halls 24-hour service desks Staff on-call 24/7 Shuttle-UM buses, vans What We Expect Lock your door when you sleep or leave your room Carry keys with you at all times Don’t let in people you do not know Make sure doors close behind you; do not prop doors open Don’t leave guests alone by themselves Report suspicious persons or activity to police SAFETY IN THE RESIDENCE HALLS

11 Know the Rules! There is NO smoking on campus. Alcohol Policy: You must be 21 to possess or drink alcoholic beverages in your own room, and you cannot provide alcohol to persons who are underage. Illegal drug use or possession (including marijuana) may result in loss of housing and suspension from the University. Know how to help a friend in need! We encourage students to seek assistance if they are worried about a friend who has been drinking or using illegal drugs! The University has a policy which provides relief from disciplinary action if a student under the influence of alcohol or drugs calls for medical assistance for a friend, or for himself/herself.
