Governance Standards will be ratified by GS1 Management Board (MB) Board Committee for Standards (BCS) directs the GSMP for GS1 and has responsibility for GSMP Operations, GS1 System Integrity and recommendations to the Management Board for ratification (due process confirmation) Solutions/Services releases are approved by GS1 CEO and ratified by the MB. BCS Support Structure Roles GS1 Architecture Group (GS1 AG) –The AG is an advisory group to the BCS –Review and provide recommendations for all relevant business requirements, standards, and services under development against the GS1 Architecture through the Architecture Review Process which will enable a single pass process, avoid duplicative discussions, and validate relevant emerging standards developments against the architecture Process Oversight Committee (POC) –The POC is an oversight body. Its primary role is to ensure GSMP process is being followed –Other key responsibilities include on-going review of process to ensure its currency and effectiveness, and to recommend ratification of standards Technical Standards Committee (TSC) –TSC is responsible for process oversight for technical standards throughout the process, from chartering through recommendation of ratification. –The TSC is a sub-committee of the POC –Works with the POC to assure terms of due process are appropriately created and executed –Makes recommendations to POC for ratification of technical standards –Provides technical advice to the GS1 Architecture Group as requested Central Operations (COPS) –The GS1 staff that supports the volunteer community of the GSMP. –The staff function that operates the GSMP infrastructure

5 Process Oversight Committee Tasks: The POC is an oversight body. Its primary role is to ensure GSMP process is being followed Assesses that due process has occurred in the new GSMP, and recommends ratification of GS1 standards for official publication –Reviews and addresses appeals or recommends them to the BCS Approves changes to the Standards Development Process –Reviews and addresses GSMP Enhancement Requests pertaining to SDP process changes (contents, version and schedule of release) Accountable to the BCS for measuring and monitoring the ongoing effectiveness of the new GSMP by establishing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and overseeing their application Ensure GSMP infrastructure and operation are aligned and support the needs as defined in the GS1 business plan

6 Process Oversight Committee Tasks cont: Monitor participation across the development cycle in the GSMP and take action to secure its balance in respect of geographical regions, industry sectors, stages in the supply chain and users/standards professionals. Approves charters for working groups Addresses issues affecting Work Groups, depending on nature of issue could be in conjunction with IE Agrees on Workgroup milestones and deliverables (in conjunction with IE) Ensure that the objectives are defined by each Work Group are successfully met on a timely basis Reviews and approves recommendations from COPS on conditions of due process

7 Technical Standards Committee Tasks: TSC is responsible for process oversight for technical standards throughout the process, from chartering through recommendation of ratification The scope of the TSC duties is limited to the development and maintenance of EPC/RFID technical standards. This role can be expanded in the future Assigns WG approved user requirements to the appropriate existing TWG and directs existing charters to be amended or new TWG charters to be created in the instance of technical standards development Reviews and approves charters for TWGs Approves guidelines for test methods and conformance requirements Advise the POC on the user role in the piloting of standards Advises the POC, GS1 AG and BCS on strategic technical initiatives as requested Nominates solution provider members to the GS1 AG (as defined the GS1 AG charter)

8 Central Operations : The Central Operations Group is the GS1 staff that supports the volunteer community of the GSMP and operates the GSMP infrastructure. Publish the KPIs as approved by the POC In conjunction with the POC, develop action plans for process optimization Assure that Complex WOs are submitted with a completed Charter Direct resource allocation and address issues concerning the capacity of the process –Resources include facilitation, development or other staff resources Develop, maintain and manage the GSMP infrastructure elements such as the Work Request system and GS1 Community Room, etc.
