4 5th Grade is a Transition Year 1. Preparing for transition into middle school 2. Your scholar is a 10 and 11 year old who will need prompting to complete homework, study for exams, make good choices, and complete larger projects.

15 Reading/Language Arts Outcomes What to expect by the end of the year: Be able to read, analyze, reflect on, critique, and evaluate fiction and nonfiction text at a 6.0 reading level. Be able to read with fluency (intonation/pace) Academic Vocabulary

16 Writing Outcomes Be able to construct a multi-paragraph narrative story and persuasive and expository essays. Expect to be able to sustain writing for 45 minutes at a time. Accurately cite and paraphrase. Revise and edit written work. Be able to use technology effectively for presentations and compositions.

17 Math Outcomes Demonstrate math understanding using multiple representations. Be able to explain thinking using written language. Be fluent with math facts: adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing. 100 mixed problems in 5 minutes Focus on adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing fractions and decimals.

18 Science Outcomes Demonstrate the Scientific Method Control Variable Independent Variable Dependent Variable Understand and apply basic understandings of inertia, gravity (solar system), atoms and molecules, the periodic table (chemistry), weather (earth), and systems of living things (biology).
