Objective: Ms. Dial will get the opportunity to learn about the students and their interests by creating a mandala. Students will learn about leaders of the 1963 March on Washington and the organizations that participated and practice examining and interpreting a primary source document Tasks/ Agenda 1. Complete Warm Up/ Show students an example of the Interactive Notebook 2. March on Washington Activity 3. Student Mandala Activity Homework- 1. Decorate the cover of your Interactive Notebook 2. Complete your “About Me Page” of your Social Studies Interactive notebook. The about me page should include your full name, 6 interesting facts about yourself, and a picture of yourself or something important to you.

4 What is a Mandala? A mandala is any form of a circular geometric design that contains symbols of a person’s inner self, guiding principles, and overall ideas about the world. The significance of objects within a mandala is conveyed by shape, size, and color. The objects can be abstract designs or specific drawings of people, places, and ideas that are central to a person’s life.
