Comments: 1. The need to have more than one Symbol on the unit consumer must stay an exemption decided by the manufacturer to facilitate the scanning of the UC. 2. It support speed at POS - so far no problems encoutered 3. The use of more than one symbol is already applied in Germany. During the GS1 DataBar Pilot realised in May 2008 by a major German retailer also showed lower error rates during the scanning process with products having more than one EAN-13 barcode symbol. 4. The wording needs to clarified. Applying 2 or more bar code labels of same GTIN number side by side on the package is probably not what the requesting MO is looking for. I assume that they want the labels applied on different faces of the package so that if the item has been placed such that one label is on the bottom, another is accessible for scanning. Please have the MO clarify the wording and how the labels need to be placed. 5. This activity already takes place in the market place in Australia for bulky or heavy items and shouldn't be a problem on any item as long as it was deemed neccessary and not excessive (which i cant seem to see a point beyond the already existing bulky and heavy notes in the existing specs which brings me to another point that i would like to make... when these questions are presented, a reason should be presented with them to allow the audience to respond in a educated manner). Furthmore, in order to ensure that the addition of any extra barcodes does not confuse the user, i think a rule should be put in place that limits it to 1 barcode per facing of the product. EG: if it is a box shaped object, the maximum amount of barcodes would be 6 (1 per facing).

Agreement: 2 Yes; 7 No Q: Do you anticipate a multiple capturing of one product at POS, if two or more identical symbols containing the same GTIN would be scanned simultaneously by a POS scanning system or does the time-out-function prevents from this? June Global Agenda Feedback Results Comments: 1. The use of more than one symbol is already applied in Germany. During the GS1 DataBar Pilot realised in May 2008 by a major German retailer also showed lower error rates during the scanning process with products having more than one EAN-13 barcode symbol. 2. If the multiple labelling is restricted to items that cannot be passed over a flat bed scanner but must be scanned by hand, the chance of an accidental double scan is greatly reduced. Again, the wording of the spec change needs to be changed to clarify under what conditions multiple labelling can be done. 3. As per previous response, there is a major issue with multiple barcodes on an item. Not all scanners nationally are able to work around the issue by adjusting timeout levels. Why not look at improving the quality of the barcode to achieve a first time read? Currently GS1 Australia is working with our company and the audit results show a below minimum requirements 4. We dont use omidirectional scanners and dont plan to now that Databar technology has be introduced. 5. symbols should not be on the same face
