Florida Standards Access Points Access Points are academic expectations written specifically for students with significant cognitive disabilities. As part of the Florida Standards, access points reflect the core intent of the standards that apply to all students in the same grade, but at reduced levels of complexity. Access courses are designed to provide students with a significant cognitive disability with access to the general curriculum.

Responses indicative of a gap in training Teacher may not be aware of Assistive Technology Accommodations (1 response) Teacher may not be aware of the FAA Object Exchange List (2 responses) Teacher may not be aware of provisions to use magnification devices (1 response) Aspects of the assessment that worked well Online videos for renewing the testing administration were easy and I didn’t miss class time. It has been a couple of years since I assessed……and the changes/improvements made this so much easier for teachers.

117 www.FLDOE.org © 2014, Florida Department of Education. All Rights Reserved. Open Response Summary (cont.) Since this was my first time testing I was a little worried…..but it was very easy to maneuver. Test was very easy to give. Due to the amount of [FAA administration] training I’ve had in past seven years…….subtests for Reading, Math, Science are easily administered with minimal distraction to my students. Flexible time…administer test only when the student was best able to answer the questions. It’s more manageable than a portfolio. The 20 questions for each subject area……something all of the students are able to handle. Any more than 20 would be too many…. Overall, easy to manage. However we received the materials and had a short period of time to administer due to Spring Break and the FSA testing as we do both. FAA followed the benchmarks for each grade….. One question per [response booklet] sheet

118 www.FLDOE.org © 2014, Florida Department of Education. All Rights Reserved. Open Response Summary (cont.) Aspects of the assessment that did not work well Too many words in scripts… Unique Learning Curriculum does not match up completely with our Access Points Not enough time…no assistant to monitor my class. Test coordinator was unfamiliar with the test (and administration protocol) and I had to clarify and lead the way on almost every aspect of the testing process. (2 responses) Materials did not come on time. My specialist did not allow me to get a sub. It should be county wide and enforced that at least 5 days of testing we should have a sub. During the testing time we should not have an IEP’s to write. I had to write 3 IEP’s while testing and no sub….. (Note: multiple iterations of this concern --less than approximately 10 total)
