11
Objective: To convert units of measure between the customary and metric systems.
12
Algebraic Expressions A numerical expression is a combination of numbers and operations. For example, 3 x 2 + 4 x 4
13
Algebraic Expressions Algebraic expressions contain at least one variable and at least one operation. e.g. n + 2
14
Algebraic Expressions A term can be a single number or variable or numbers and variables multiplied together and separated by addition or subtraction. e.g. 4x + 4 This expression has 2 terms.
15
Algebraic Expressions A coefficient is the numerical factor of a term that contains a variable. e.g. 4x + 4 In this expression there is only one term that has a variable and the coefficient is 4.
16
Algebraic Expressions A term without a variable is called a constant. e.g. 4x + 4 Constant.
17
Algebraic Expressions Evaluate 2(n + 3) if n = -4. Do this on your own.
18
Algebraic Expressions Evaluate 2(n + 3) if n = -4. 2(-4 + 3) 2(-1) - 2
19
Algebraic Expressions Evaluate 8w – 2v if w = 5 and v = 3. Do this on your own.
20
Algebraic Expressions Evaluate 8w – 2v if w = 5 and v = 3. 8 (5) – 2(3) 40 – 2(3) 40 – 6 34
21

23
Algebraic Expressions Evaluate 2c – 4d if c = 8 and d = -5.
24
Algebraic Expressions Evaluate 2c – 4d if c = 8 and d = -5. 2 (8) – 4(-5) 16 – 4(-5) 16 + 20 36
25
Algebraic Expressions Evaluate 2d² + 5d if c = 8 and d = -5. 2 (-5)² + 5(-5) 2 (-5)² -25 2 (25) -25 50 – 25 25
26
Algebraic Expressions Evaluate 3(c + d) if c = 8 and d = -5.
27
Algebraic Expressions Evaluate 3(c + d) if c = 8 and d = -5. 3[ 8 + (-5)] 3(8 - 5) 3(3) 9
28
Algebraic Expressions Evaluate d - c² if c = 8 and d = -5.
29
Algebraic Expressions Evaluate d - c² if c = 8 and d = -5. -5 - 8² -5 – 64 -69
30
