What does “organic” mean? According to the USDA, if a product is labeled “organic” (USDA certified label) the product has been produced according to federal regulations that “foster cycling of resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity” (USDA, 2012). Synthetic fertilizers and genetic engineering may not be used to produce these products (USDA, 2012).
