Country’s ultimate goal was self-sufficiency and that all countries were in a competition to acquire the most gold and silver Focused on balance of trade – amount of goods sold to amount of goods bought Favorable balance would be to have more gold coming in than going out Looked to American colonies as a source of raw materials that were not native to Britain

The navigation acts Colonists exported lumber, fish, furs, and tobacco
No country could trade with the colonies unless the goods were shipped in either colonial or English ships. All vessels had to be operated by crews that were at least ¾ English or colonial. The colonies could export certain products only to England. Almost all goods traded between the colonies and Europe first had to pass through an English port. Colonists exported lumber, fish, furs, and tobacco Imported furniture, utensils, books and china Exports also end up in Spain, France, and Holland. England loosens the reigns
England Becomes Great Britain– Distracted with France. Salutary Neglect: (beneficial) as long as goods kept coming from the colonies to England they would economically support the colonies without enforcing the acts militarily. This system was based upon the use of Governors in the colonies which would lead to self-government. How was the self government different throughout the colonies themselves?
