What is SNAP? Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Formerly food stamps Nation’s largest nutritional assistance program Issued by individual states Redeemable at any authorized SNAP retailer Accessed via an Electronic Benefit Transfer card (EBT).

How does the program work? 1. A SNAP customer swipes their EBT card at a central sale location and enters their PIN number. 2. Once approved, the customer receives their requested amount of tokens in $1 denominations. 3. The SNAP customer uses the tokens at participating vendor stands to purchase eligible items. 4. The vendor is reimbursed for their accepted tokens at the end of each market day.

Benefits of participating in SNAP Supports local agriculture by increasing sales at farm stands and farmers’ markets Can help vendors create larger customer base Promotes the development of farmers’ markets to communities lacking access to fresh produce Provides income to farmers that in turn helps boost local economies

Seeds and plants which produce food for the household to eat Allowed Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes or tobacco Food that will be eaten in the store Hot foods Any nonfood items: - pet foods - soaps, paper products - household supplies - Vitamins and medicines X Not Allowed

What is FMNP? Farmers Market Nutrition Program Provides WIC participants with coupons that can be used to purchase locally grown, fresh fruits and vegetables. The produce can be purchased from authorized farmers at selected farmers’ markets during the program dates listed on the coupons.

How does the program work? 1.Send ODH name and address of interested farmer 2.ODH sends farmer packet with contract, manual, other information 3.ODH contacts me with names of who needs trained 4.I train participating farmers (15-20 minutes) 5.After training – ODH sends posters, stamp, invoices and a copy of contract 6.Farmer sends invoices directly to ODH for reimbursement
