1. DUTCH ORGAN TOUR 2th to 7th May 2010 The 2011 tour leads us to several of the large city organs in some of the famous cities of Holland. In these cities large organs where build since the 16th century, in the protestant churches mainly for accompagning congregational singing, but many of the city counsels, specially in the 17th and 18th century, are involved in a competition to build the most beautiful and largest organ. The organs are demonstrated and played by well- known professional organists and tour participants can have a go under their guidance. Including 5 nights with breakfast in two 3-star hotels and all the transport in Holland with a comfortable coach. Itinerary in a nutshell: Monday: After arrival on Schiphol airport or train station, the coach brings us to the our first hotel near The Hague. In the evening we go to the old city of Delft for a diner (included) and our first welcome recital performed on the Maarschalkerweerd organ of the R.C. Maria van Jesse church by Petra Veenswijk. The organ, one of the largest instruments of Maarschalkerweerd, is recently restored. Wednesday: We visit the largest Dutch church organ in the Laurenskerk in the city centre of Rotterdam, the church is completely rebuild after the war. The organ is build by Marcussen in 1973. This firm build also the beautiful tranceptorgan in 1959, lovely voiced by S. Zachariassen. We find an other fine specimen of 20th century organ building in the concert hall De Doelen, an organ build by the Flentrop firm in 1968 and recently completely renovated. Friday: On this last full day we spend the day in the capital for visiting two 19th century organs. In the Mozes and Aäron kerk we listen to romantic french music and have go on the 1870 organ of Adema, strongly influenced by Cavalle-Coll. More unique is the large organ in de former RC Church ‘de Duif”, build by the Brabant organbuilders Smits, one of the few outside their home province. A part of the day is available for visiting the city-center of Amsterdam. Group members going on this tour will be required to make their own way to Holland, where they will be met at and returned to Schiphol Amsterdam airport that have also a major train-station with regular train services to other places like ferry ports and to london. All travel within Holland will be by coach and is included. Included In the price are: 5 nights B&B in a 3* hotel (with 2 sharing a twin room). Dinner on Monday evening. We visit the organ of the Pieterskerk, the largest organ in a city church with mean tone temperament, brought back to the original specification by Verschueren. After this imposing instrument we listen and have go on the very recently restored organ of the Mare church, originally the 17th century small organ of the Pieterskerk, rebuild in 18th century by Garrels and housed in a domed church. During this day we visit also the Hortus Botanicus from the Leiden University for a lunch (included) Thursday: This day, dedicated to the 18th century, we visit the most wellknown organ of Holland, the Muller-organ in the St. Bavo church of Haarlem. But first we go to the famous flower exhibition Keukenhof (included) and, after arriving in Haarlem, a visit to the small but beautiful Hess organ of the Nieuwe Kerk. After Haarlem we drive to the second hotel just outside Amsterdam. Saturday: We ends this tour with a visit to the workshop of the organbuilder Flentrop in Zaandam. After this the coach brings us to the airport or train station for the journey home, ending a stimulating week in wich we will have see, hear and played some of the most beautiful and famous organs that Holland has to offer.
