Kolob What is Kolob? Abraham 3:1–4
3
One Thousand Years One day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3:8 (5) 1000 years our time=1 day with the Lord How long have you been away from God’s presence? If you live 100 years on earth= 1/10 of one day with the Lord Divide Lord’s day into 24 equal parts (2.4 hours). 100 years on earth = 2.4 hours in the Lord’s time… Your age x.694 = how many minutes you’ve been away from God’s presence CAN YOU BE GOOD FOR 2 HOURS?

What is the Abrahamic COVENANT? “Abraham received the gospel and was ordained to the higher priesthood, and he entered into celestial marriage, which is the covenant of exaltation. Abraham received a promise that all of the blessings of these covenants would be offered to his mortal posterity, called the Abrahamic covenant. Through it all the nations of the earth are blessed.” Guide to the Scriptures, lds.org “And ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.” (Jeremiah 30:22) Abraham 2 (Chapter Heading)
18
What is Foreordination? “God’s premortal ordination of his valiant spirit children to fulfill certain missions during their mortal lives.” Guide to the Scriptures, lds.org Look for the doctrine of foreordination in Abraham 3:22-23
19
True/False 1. Some people were foreordained to do bad things. 2. If you were foreordained to do something, you will do it. 3. All Melchizedek Priesthood holders were foreordained to be Melchizedek Priesthood holders. 4. If you don’t do what you were foreordained to do, you will be held accountable for it. 5. Everyone is foreordained to do something. 6. We agreed to do the things we were foreordained to do. 7. Our birth time and location was based on our pre-earth life activity. 8. We chose our spouses in the pre-earth life. 9. We can find out what we have been foreordained to do.
20
True/False 1. Some people were foreordained to do bad things.
21
Elder Bruce R McConkie When we come into mortality, we bring the talents, capacities, and abilities acquired by obedience to law in our prior existence. Mozart composed and published sonatas when but eight years of age because he was born with musical talent. Melchizedek came into this world faith and spiritual capacity. Cain, on the other hand, like Lucifer, was a liar from the beginning and was told in this life: “… thou shalt be called Perdition; for thou wast also before the world.” (Moses 5:24.) Ensign, May 1974, p.71
22
True/False 2. If you were foreordained to do something, you will do it.
23
President Harold B. Lee Do not misunderstand that such a calling and such a foreordination pre-determine what you must do. …God may have called and chosen men in the spirit world or in their first estate to do a certain work, but whether they will accept that calling here is their right and privilege. Decisions for Successful Living, pp. 168-169
24
JST Romans 9:6-7 For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: Neither, because they are all children of Abraham, are they the seed.
25
Elder Neal A. Maxwell By reason of that surpassing knowledge, God reads the future of child and children, of men individually and of men collectively as communities and nations; He knows what each will do under given conditions, and sees the end from the beginning. His foreknowledge is based on intelligence and reason. The Great Apostasy, p. 20. James E. Talmage, Quoted by Neal A. Maxwell,Things As They Really Are, p.28
26
True/False 3. All Melchizedek Priesthood holders were foreordained to be Melchizedek Priesthood holders.
27
Joseph Smith Every man who has a calling to minister to the inhabitants of the world was ordained to that very purpose in the grand council of heaven before this world was. Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith, p. 365.
28
Alma 13:2-3 And those priests were ordained after the order of his Son … being called and prepared from the foundation of the world according to the foreknowledge of God.
29
True/False 4. If you don’t do what you were foreordained to do, you will be held accountable for it.
30
President Spencer W. Kimball Before we came here, faithful women were given certain assignments. While we do not now remember the particulars, this does not alter the glorious reality of what we once agreed to. You are accountable for those things which long ago were expected of you! Ensign, Nov. 1979, p. 102.
31
True/False 5. Everyone is foreordained to do something.
32
Elder Bruce R. McConkie The whole house of Israel and with all the members of the Lord’s earthly church—all are participants in the blessings of foreordination. Ensign, May 1974, p. 71.
33
True/False 6. We agreed to do the things we were foreordained to do.
34
President Spencer W. Kimball We made vows, solemn vows, in the heavens before we came to this mortal life. …We committed ourselves to our Heavenly Father that if He would send us to the earth and give us bodies and give to us the priceless opportunities that earth life afforded, we would keep our lives clean and would marry in the holy temple and would rear a family and teach them righteousness. This was a solemn oath, a solemn promise. Be Ye Therefore Perfect, University of Utah Institute Devotional, Jan. 10, 1975, 2.
35
Elder Neal A. Maxwell/Orson Hyde “It is not impossible that we signed the articles thereof with our own hands,—which articles may be retained in the archives above, to be presented to us when we rise from the dead, and be judged out of our own mouths, according to that which is written in the books. Just because we have forgotten, our forgetfulness cannot alter the facts.” (Journal of Discourses, 7:314–15.) Hence, the degree of detail may be a more highly customized thing than many of us surmise. Neal A. Maxwell, Brigham Young University, 10 October 1978.
36
True/False 7. Our birth time and location was based on our pre-earth life activity
37
Elder Bruce R. McConkie As a result of preexistent faithfulness, certain of the Father's children earned the right to receive preferential treatment during their mortal sojourn. Some who were noble and great were foreordained. Others merited birth into the house of Israel, before that same gift was given to others. The Promised Messiah, p.506
38
President David O McKay “... Our place in this world would then be determined by our own advancement or condition in the pre-mortal state, just as our place in our future existence will be determined by what we do here in mortality” Home Memories of President David O. McKay, 228–30.
39
Bible Dictionary: ELECTION An “election of grace” has reference being born at a time, at a place, and in circumstances where one will come in favorable contact with the gospel. This election took place in the premortal existence. Those who are faithful and diligent in the gospel in mortality receive an even more desirable election in this life and become the elect of God.
40
True/False 8. We chose our spouses in the Pre- Earth Life.
41
President Spencer W. Kimball "Soul mates" are fiction and an illusion. It is certain that almost any good man and any good woman can have happiness and a successful marriage if both are willing to pay the price. “Marriage and Divorce,” in BYU Speeches of the Year, 1976, BYU, 146
42
True/False 9. We can find out what we have been foreordained to do.
43
What is a birthright? X2!!!
44
The Test of Life Abraham 3:22-25 The great test of life is to see whether we will hearken to and obey God’s commands in the midst of the storms of life.
45
“You may enjoy music, athletics, or be mechanically inclined, and someday you may work in a trade or a profession or in the arts. As important as such activities and occupations can be, they do not define who we are. First and foremost, we are spiritual beings. We are sons and daughters of God and the seed of Abraham” (“Becoming a Missionary,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2005, 47). The Test of Life Abraham 3:24-25
