1)Location: On the Indian Subcontinent- large landmass that is separated from the rest of the continent 2) Place: 30* N, 80* E- Extremes of weather with floods, droughts, and a hot, dry desert-like climate 3) Movement: Like Egypt and Mesopotamia, Ancient India was a river civilization that relied on the Indus River for farming 4) Physical Regions: - Himalaya Mountains, Ganges River which empties into the Indus River, desert, and plains

Monsoons Monsoons are strong winds that blow one direction in the winter and another in the summer. When the rains begin many farmers celebrate. WHY??

-Farmers began planting around the Indus River in 6000 BC. This is 1,000 years before farming began in Egypt -Farmers grew wheat, barley, beans, and sesame, along with the first rice, bananas, and black peppers -Domesticated animals to plow fields and transport goods -Built irrigation canals to bring water from river to their crops -By 3000 BC towns formed along the river, 30 years later these would grow into mighty cities
