6. Background Information This is my 9 th year teaching at Dryden! I taught 2 nd grade for 7 years. This will be my second year teaching Kindergarten. I got married in May 2014. My husband Kyle and I live in Arlington Heights. I am a triplet, and have two brothers. I have a Masters Degree in Teacher Leadership and endorsements in reading, language arts, social studies and middle school.

9. We utilize a workshop model for both reading and writing instruction that encourages scaffolding and a gradual release of responsibility as children move from modeled reading and writing to independence.

13. Math Instruction We use a problem-solving approach based on everyday situations. Key mathematical ideas are repeated over time in slightly different ways. Learning takes place through age- appropriate, playful activities. Math homework provides opportunities to “do math” at home!

Me Bag Similar to “Show-and-Tell” Great opportunity for children to learn about each other Each child will be assigned a week during the year to bring in some photos and 4-5 items that help us get to know them. Items can be placed in the bag provided and brought to school on the Monday of your child’s assigned week. Parents are invited to come in to read a story on the Friday of their child’s week at 11:30 am/3:15pm.

19. Homework Reinforces the skills and concepts being taught in class and promotes responsibility. Weekly Homework Routines –Please check your child’s Take Home Folder and book bag on a daily basis. –Continue to read aloud to your child daily. It is one of the best ways to help your child develop the knowledge needed for later reading success. –Practice naming letters and sounds –Practice reading sight works quickly

20. Additional Information Please remember to have your child wear gym shoes on gym days and return their library book on book checkout days. Transportation changes—please let me know. Feel free to contact me at anytime with questions or concerns. There is no such thing as a silly question!

21. Snack We take a working snack break. Please keep snacks simple/finger food friendly. Please do not send juice or water. We have a water fountain in our classroom.
