Student versus Non-Student Data: (Census 2000 - Special Tabulation #137) Selected Summary File 3 Data for Tompkins County, NY

Background Information: In 2003, the Tompkins County Planning Department requested and received a Special Tabulation from the U.S. Bureau of the Census. This Special Tabulation (#137) provided separate sets of the 2000 Census data for "college students" and "non-college students" in Tompkins County. "College student" was defined as those answering "yes" to question 8a of the Census 2000 "long" form questionnaire ("at any time since February 1, 2000, has this person attended regular school or college?" - for ages 17+).

What data was included? Data received as part of this Special Tabulation includes: total population age / median age race / hispanic origin family households/non-family households / avg hh size housing units: renter / owner occupied commuting to work modes / mean travel time to work household/family income / mean household income per capita income / mean family income poverty status gross rent/mortgage / % of household income towards rent median rent/mortgage
