2 2 South Orange County Outlook  Six main industries show consistent growth –Computer/Technology –Business/Financial Services –Biomedical/Biotechnology –Aerospace –Healthcare –Tourism

3 3 State Requirements for Credit Program Approval  All credit courses and programs – degrees and certificates - require state approval  State evaluation of new programs is based on: –Place of the proposed program in the district master plan –Appropriateness to the objectives and conditions of higher education and community college education in California –Conformity to statewide master planning

4 4 State Requirements for Credit Program Approval  State evaluation of new programs is based on: –Need for the proposed program ascertained with regard to at least the following factors: Other community colleges in the area currently offering the program Other programs closely related to the proposed program offered by the college Relation of the proposed program to job market analysis Enrollment projection for the proposed program Recommendations of area vocational master plan committees when applicable Classification of the courses in the program in accordance with section 55001 of Title 5

5 5 Current Program Offerings  Saddleback College –193 degrees and certificates  Irvine Valley College –93 degrees and certificates

6 6 Saddleback College  Rapid Digital Manufacturing Program –Approved by the State; started Spring 2008 –27-unit certificate and AS degree program –Trains and educates students to design, develop, and produce products utilizing additive manufacturing processes –First program of its kind in US  Entertainment and Theatre Technology Certificate Program –Curriculum approved; program to begin Fall 2008 –Provides students with career preparation for entry- level positions in the professional entertainment industry

7 7 Saddleback College  Child Development and Educational Studies –Associate Degree approved by the State; program to begin Fall 2008  The National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) Certification –Associate Degree approved –New curriculum meeting national standards of NATEF to be implemented for Fall 2008

8 8 Saddleback College  Medical Lab Technician Program –Associate Degree in process –Program to begin Fall 2009  Biotechnology Program –Program to begin Fall 2009

9 9 Irvine Valley College  Established the Office of Career Technical Education & Workforce Development to meet the needs and demands of Orange County’s workforce and businesses  Institute for Women in Trades, Technology & Science –Started Spring 2008 –IVC recently granted a sub award by the CalWomen Tech Project funded through the National Science Foundation

10 10 Irvine Valley College  Bank Officer –Intern program started Spring 2008 –Program’s funding is contingent on a grant award through the Community-Based Job Training Grant  Ocean Science Education –Program to begin Spring 2009  Computer Forensics Specialist –Program to begin Fall 2009

11 11 Irvine Valley College  CIM Digital Media Technologies/Fine Arts Digital Media Art –Program to begin Fall 2009  Health Information Technician –Program to begin Fall 2009 –Curriculum for this program must be submitted and approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education –Program development pending based on approval of a grant

12 12 Irvine Valley College  Paralegal/ Legal Assistant –Program to begin Fall 2009  Physical Therapy Assistant –Program to begin Spring 2010
