General Info. Tennis can be played with wither two or four players. Points are scored by serving and placing the ball so the opponent misses the ball, drives it into the net, or out of the court area. Play begins as the server delivers from behind the baseline and to the right of the center of the court. The server serves to the opponents right court. Play continues until a point is one by either player. The same server then moves to the left hand side of center court to serve. ONE PLAYER SERVES THE ENTIRE GAME.
4
RULES AND SCORING The points of the game are Love, 15, 30,40, and deuce. Deuce is when the score is 40-40. The tie is broken and the game is won by winning two consecutive points. The servers score is always called first. For example, the server’s score would be love-30 if he/she lost the first two points of the game and 40-30 if he/she won the next three points. Singles and doubles are scored the same way. A set is won by the play or team who is the first to win six game with at least a two game lead.
5
Scoring Continued. If a set is tied 6-6, a tiebreaker is played which is the first player to 7 points with a two point lead. The serve alternates each two serves after the first serve in a tiebreaker. PLAYING A GAME: The server has two chances to serve the ball diagonally into the opponents service box. If the first serve is good, a second is not needed. A double fault (such as hitting the first ball into the net and the second ball out of bounds) results in a point for the receiver.
6
Playing the Game Cont. The receiver MUST wait until the ball bounces before returning it. Reasons for a Service Fault: 1. serves from incorrect position 2. commits a foot fault 3. misses the ball or slightly hits it. 4. fails to hit the ball into the correct service court. 5. hits any structure other than net, strap, or band. 6. hits partner with the ball
7
LOSS OF POINT: A player loses the point if: 1. she does not return the ball to her opponents court on the volley or after the first bounce. 2. she or her clothing touches the net in any way. 3. she reaches over the net to play a ball 4. she throws her racket at the ball 5. she hits the ball more than once. 6. she misses the ball, hits it out, or into the net.
8
THE BALL IS GOOD IF: 1. it lands on any line 2. it touches the top of a net or net post and falls into the proper court. 3. if a player reaches outside the net post to play a ball and returns it successfully 4. if the player’s racket on the follow-through goes over the net but does not touch it

Serving Skills: -stand sideways to the baseline with feet pointing to the net post -the higher the point of contact with the ball the better the serve is likely to be. -the ball should be tossed straight up as high as the fully extended arm and racket can reach and contacted just as it reaches its max height -When the ball starts down, the racket is swing back behind the head, and the body weight shifts to the forward foot as the ball is contacted above the shoulder.

Two Basic Tennis Strokes Forehand Stroke: For a right hander, place your left side to the net. Your weight it on your right foot as you bring your racket back. Racket should be below your wrist. As you swing, step on your left foot and bring your right foot parallel to the left. Backhand Stroke: For the right hander, turn right side toward the net. As you bring your racket back, place your left hand on top of your right. Bring the racket back to your left hip. Now step with your right foot, swing the racket forward, and pivot bringing your left foot even with the right. Racket should finish over your shoulder.
