Tennis Player What it means to be a tennis player.

Introduction How many of you have ever played tennis, watched it on TV or know someone who plays? Tennis is a lifetime sport. Players generally start out playing in similar ways, but their progression can vary. An 11 year old girl played a 42 year old man in a tennis match and who do you think won the match? Friedman, Andrew.(2011, March).”A Lesson For the Ages”.Tennis,38-41.

Getting Started A. Buying Tennis Gear 1.When choosing a tennis racquet you should consider the racquet size, string, string tension and the size of the grip. 2. Choose an over grip that is tacky, so if your hands begin to sweat bad you can still maintain a good grip on the racquet. Vale, Mark.(2002) Junior Tennis. New York. Barron’s Educational Series.

Choosing your apparel Tennis shoes vary in brands. Choose a pair that is most comfortable for you. Choose clothes that are loose fitting or comfortable. Some players like to wear a hat or visor to block the sun.

Scoring during the game 1.The server starts out on the right side of the court to begin singles play. The ball must land inside his opponent’s service box. If at anytime during play, the ball lands outside of the lines the player that hit it out loses the point. When the score is called, the servers score is said first. The points awarded begin with 15,30,40, then the next point is game. If they tie at 40 all, they play Add which means playing two more points to decide the game. In high school and in certain situations, a coach or tournament director can tell players to play no Add. This means at 40 all whoever wins the next point wins the game. 2.When playing a match you have to win 2 sets. These sets are composed of six games. If you split sets you have to play a third set tiebreaker. Kriese, Chuck.(1997)Coaching Tennis. Illinois. NTC/Contemporary Publishing Group.

People who play tennis began playing for various reasons A. Tennis is a sport that is played at many levels. – 1. At a very young age playing tennis consist of kids learning to make contact with the ball. They play games and do agility drills to help with their coordination. – 2. In the middle years the game starts becoming a more competitive sport because by then your skills have improved due to tennis clinics and private lessons. – 3. For the more serious players, these skills take them to the collegiate level. – 4. Adult players vary in experience. Some were competitive players in their younger years and others picked up the game later in life. Most adults play for the social aspects and to keep in shape. Vale, Mark. (2002) Junior Tennis. New York. Barron’s Educational Series.

Conclusion Unlike many sports, tennis can be played throughout one’s life. Players due to age, experience, and capability can play the game with people who have similar skills. This makes it fun for everybody involved. My grandfather played well into his 70s. By playing doubles with people near his age and skill, he was able to keep playing a game that he loves.
