Thought of the Day On Friday, we discussed the importance of documents. What is a document? Identify any two important documents (in history or in your life). Explain why these documents are important. You should have 5 complete sentences.

Literature A body of written work Epic A long narrative (story) poem of legendary or historical heroes Saga Stories about ancient history, battles that took place during voyages (trips), often written in whole poems

Graphics Illustrations, pictures, diagrams, figures 1 st used during prehistoric periods on stone tablets or in cave paintings

Primary Sources An eye-witness account of a place or event. Firsthand knowledge Diaries, letters, memoirs, interviews, photographs, news articles (if they were at the event), and legal documents One perspective

Oral History Recorded historical information obtained in interviews concerning personal experiences and recollections (memories). Secondary Sources A document or recording that discusses information originally presented somewhere else. Newspapers, magazines, autobiographies, reviews

Bias A strong opinion about something. You can be biased in favor of something or biased against it. Based on feelings and opinions more than facts Bias influences the way people interpret and write about events. Recognizing bias helps you judge the accuracy of what you hear and read.
