Writing Day! We need to talk about two things Formative vs. Summative Summative Expectations

“Formative vs. Summative” Formative: Daily assignments. The goal of these assignments is to increase your understanding and practice your skills. Think of them like practicing for a game or a performance. Summative: Every few weeks. The goal of these assignments is for you to show what you know and can do. Think of these like the actual game or a performance.

“Computer Stuff” Grab a computer and log in: Username: tps Password: leave blank Use “winhome” to log into your H drive Username: student # Password: TPS STOP ‘n CHECK Create a “BG Humanities” Folder STOP ‘n CHECK Go to BG’s Swift Site Open “Summative Write #1” Save as “Summative Write #1” in your “BG Humanities” folder

“Summative Expectations” Formatting 12 pt Times New Roman font, plain script Double spaced Name, teacher, class and period, date in top left From top to bottom: rubric, rough draft, final draft Behavior Expectations Whisper voice only Do your best work Respect your classmates Ask questions (with a hand)

“Task vs. Craft” Task: Something you do just to get it done. Once you complete it, it is over Craft: Something that you become more skillful at every time you do it. It is never over or finished even though you might complete specific projects
