4 Listen and Speak More  Language learning begins with ability to converse in the language.  More opportunities for listening and speaking will be created to encourage your child to express herself.  Through engaged participation in classroom activities, your child will find learning more meaningful and develop a strong foundation in oral communication.

5 Recognise Characters Effectively  A range of character recognition strategies will be taught explicitly to students  Teachers and students will be encouraged to adapt strategies to suit their needs

6 Teaching Reading  Early reading helps students acquire the language faster  It helps students consolidate characters learnt  Children love stories  Teach students reading strategies explicitly

7 Script Writing  Not required to write the characters many times  Augment with structured processes such as  writing using fingers  demonstration  tracing  evaluating

8 Essay Writing  Essay writing skills will be taught systematically  At lower primary, students will be taught to compose simple sentences  As they move up the levels: Sentences → Paragraphs → Short Essays

9 Modular Approach Greater customisation and flexibility

18 CL Homework If your child needs to bring her book home to complete, please supervise her at home and make sure she hands in the book to her CL teacher the next day.

19 CL Supplementary reading materials  “Hao Peng You” 《好朋友》  The content is rich and varied, it consists of stories, nursery rhymes, riddles, tongue twisters, Hanyu Pinyin exercises (term 1), worksheets, quizzes and many more.  Class Book Flood and Reading Cards

25 Parent Support  Tap on the environment such as road signs and advertisements to engage your child in Chinese conversations during outings

26 Parental Support  Do not excessively correct children’s mistakes  Build up their confidence  Children are more willing to use the language, thus, will acquire it better  Allow the children to learn through meaningful games
