Introduction to manuscript uploading at journal site 1.Title (with authors and affiliation) 2.Abstract 3.Introduction 4.Materials and methods 5.Results 6.Discussion 7.Conclusion 8.Bibliography 1. All the text that includes all these parts is uploaded as a separate file and represents main “manuscript body” 2. Other files are uploaded separately that include following Figures Tables (legends are included) Legends to figures (sometimes with the body after bibliography)

Origin of results of a study Results most of the time come from experiments done inside labs They can come from surveys, for example from clinical trials in patients where the number of deaths and survivors are recorded after administration of a single or a combination of drugs. They can come from population studies in a city or in villages. They can come from studies done in agricultural fields, oceans, rivers forests, and other ecosystems

Results in almost journals are presented in the form of 1.Diagrams 2.Flow charts 3.Tables 1.Each result is well described separately 2.Each result has a title ; 3.Each result most of the time will have one or multiple diagrams/table. Representation of results of the study in the manuscript Each result is described/explained in good scientific writings in the text under “Results”. You do not discuss the results, just represent them; The corresponding protocol/experimental method is described under “materials and methods”.

Structure of the Figures and/or Tables and the Related Captions Figures, Flow charts, Tables, tables Captions deserve a special attention, which is neglected in a typical written presentation. The main issue is that reading only the figure captions of the paper can substitute the first rough reading of the entire paper. This goal is achieved more successfully if the caption includes the following five elements: (a) Title with the main highlight, i.e. the main issue to be demonstrated by the corresponding figure/table/diagram; (b) Legend, to explain overall findings inside the figure/table; (c) Description, of one or more phenomena which deserve attention
6
Representation through diagrams Single Diagram Several diagrams in one diagram Diagram can be single; or it can have different sub-diagrams which are all numbered Each diagram will have a caption/legend at the bottom; and will represent results from one or multiple experiments Figure 3. Fluctuation of body temperature with time after drug administration. (explain). The body temperature was least at the begging Then reached a max of 103 after 6 hours and thereafter decreased. Figure 5. Effect of a drug on lymphocyte DNA invivo in rats. (a) control, no treatment. (b) Oral gavage of drug at.01 mg/d (C) Oral gavage of drug at.02 mg/d and so on. Short Scientific explanation

Best way to present tabulated data; Table representation and drawing Sugar Level (mg/dl) Fat mass (Kg) Lean mass (Kg) Body wt (Kg) Patient numbe r 100525301 1101440542 1542345683 1251442564 1181735525 1101732496 Prepare table in excel Copy and paste as “text” in word document Sugar Level (mg/dl) Fat mass (Kg) Lean mass (Kg) Body wt (Kg) Patient number 100525301 1101440542 1542345683 1251442564 1181735525 1101732496 Finally put the top line between two lines (bold and one at bottom ) Sugar Level (mg/dl) Fat mass (Kg) Lean mass (Kg) Body wt (Kg) Patient number 100525301 1101440542 1542345683 1251442564 1181735525 1101732496 Now add a caption/ legend, jus as in diagram (at top) Table 3. ……

A study was conducted in university by Tabuk by MLT students in which following clinical parameters were evaluated with the given ranges in 12 male patients in the age group of 18-70 years at King Fahad Hospital: Total body mass (25-100 Kg), lean mass (18-60 Kg), body fat mass (7-40 Kg), fasting sugar level (78-195 mg/dl), and Hemoglobin level (6-15 mg/dl). Make a hypothetical tabulated data along with a complete legend from the information provided assuming you have to send it to a peer reviewed journal for publication as part of a manuscript Practice questions How to make a table or a figure out of your results Lymphocytes in cell culture media (in triplicates) were treated with a single concentrations 50 microgram/mL concentration copper which lead to increased cell death at 5 min, 10 min, 20 min, 40 min and 60 min. Interestingly pre-treatment of cells (in triplicates) by increasing concentrations at 1, 2, 4, 8, 10, 20 micorgm/mL of Neoceoprine (copper chelating agent) lead to decrease in the number of cell deaths that was evaluated at similar timings. Make a best possible hypothetical line graph representation (comparing damage with copper and its inhibition by Neocuproine) assuming that it needs to be sent to an international journal for publication purpose.

The King Fahad hospital received a case of obesity (Mass 120 Kg). The doctor put the patient on special diet and exercise to reduce weight for 6 months. For each month the weight of patient by reduced by five Kgs. Represent the weight reduction in the form of a line graph
