2 How do diabetes pills help control Diabetes pills help lower your blood sugar! There are many types of pills for diabetes Each type of pill helps lower blood sugar in a different way Your health care provider can help you learn about the pills you take This pamphlet was made to help you know what your pills look like. It also helps you know when to take your pills. Please note that these pill pictures may change. If you have more questions about your pills, call Fort Thompson Health Center pharmacy at 245-1543

3 Glimepiride 2 mg Take with breakfast or the first big meal of the day Can be crushed, chewed or cut in half Can cause your blood sugar to bottom out, so always eat when you take this tablet

4 Glimepiride 4 mg Take with breakfast or the first big meal of the day Can be crushed, chewed or cut in half Can cause your blood sugar to bottom out, so always eat when you take this tablet

5 Glipizide 5 mg Can cause your blood sugar to bottom out, so always eat after you take this tablet Take 30 minutes before a meal Can be crushed, chewed or cut in half

6 Glipizide 10 mg Take 30 minutes before a meal Can be crushed, chewed or cut in half Can cause your blood sugar to bottom out, so always eat after you take this tablet

7 Glyburide 5 mg Take 30 minutes before a meal Can be crushed, chewed or cut in half Can cause your blood sugar to bottom out, so always eat after you take this tablet

8 Glyburide ER 5 mg Take 30 minutes before a meal Do not crush, chew, or cut this tablet Can cause your blood sugar to bottom out, so always eat after you take this tablet

9 Metformin 500 mg Take with breakfast or the first big meal of the day Can be crushed, chewed or cut in half Won’t do anything unless you take it with food
