Depending on number of homes and to maximize construction efficiencies, either a 8 way or 12 way tube bundle is deployed in the cut. At each drop, 1 tube is pulled from the bundle and terminated in the flower pot located at each home/drop. When the tubes are vacant, end caps MUST be used to prevent ingress of materials/water. Tube connectors are used to connect to a single tube within the bundle and extend across the road to drops/homes located on the opposite side of the cut.

Road crossings can be completed in a number of different methods: Saw cutting Missile boring Directional drill Once the bore is made, a conduit can be placed within the bore hole and used as the conduit in which the single tube will cross the streets. The tube will then terminate at the flower pot. The fibre will then be blown directly from the POP to the flower pot and spliced to the Tyco – Gator.

Each drop will have an assigned color that will be labeled in the FOSC located at the POP. For example: –Tube bundle 1 – Blue – 16161 27 th Avenue –Tube bundle 2 – Blue – 16347 27 th Avenue The fibre will be spliced to the Gator assembly and placed at the bottom of the flower pot. Splicing of the 2 strand fibre into this closure requires approx. 5 minutes each

Tyco Electronics provides a Gator 12F Splice Closure that uses a gel sealing technology to create a sealed closure system capable of fitting into small areas such as small flower pot style handholes. This system includes a pre- connectorized pig tail to which the 2 strand SM fibre is spliced.

At the POP, the individual tubes of each bundle are inserted into a standard Telecom FOSC and spliced to the backbone or carrier network. Each tube color from each tube bundle is assigned to each of the individual drops/ homes. Standard sized handholes or manholes can be used to house the FOSC

Tubes of each tube bundle are inserted into the FOSC. Once inserted, fibre is then blown into the tubes and terminated at each end. As an added protection for the fibre, a 5mm – 3.0mm reducer can be used and a small section of 3/2.1mm primary tube connected and wrapped within the splice trays. Use of grip connectors on the fibre is also an option as this prevents any movement of the fibre once installed
