2 Autodesk Building Systems 2007
Focus of Autodesk Building Systems 2007 Ease of Use Ease of Migration “Lines, Arcs & Circles” Construction Documents The focus of Autodesk Building Systems 2007 is in three main areas. Ease of Use… Increase Efficiency with Improved Drafting Productivity. Reduce drafting time by working with tools designed specifically for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) designers and drafters. Adapt and easily customize Autodesk Building Systems to existing AutoCAD-based workflows and flexibly implement it where appropriate to improve the design process. Take advantage of Building Systems enhanced single-line and double-line system design and layout productivity tools, and spend less time drafting and more time designing. Working in the familiar AutoCAD-based environment enables you to easily implement new design tools at your own pace. Ease of Migration from “Lines, Arcs & Circles”…Transition seamlessly from traditional drafting processes. Autodesk Building Systems enables engineers, designers and drafters to move from design to documentation faster through the automated production of construction documents with discipline-specific, AutoCAD-based tools. Increase the efficiency of the design development and construction documentation processes using actual industry-based content. Reuse design data by linking to industry-leading analysis, cost estimation, and fabrication software applications. Construction Documents…Produce Accurate Construction Documentation in Less Time. Minimize documentation coordination errors between mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering design teams as well as with architects and structural engineers within an AutoCAD-based workflow. Autodesk Building Systems helps reduce requests for information (RFIs) and costly design changes in the field by enabling more accurate and consistent construction documents. 5 Discipline Specific Tool Palettes
Mechanical Electrical Plumbing Piping Group by size, system or shape Discipline specific Purpose based for MEP Benefit… Save time on training, find drafting tools easily Ensure that all team members have the right tools for the job. A discipline-specific engineering tool palette shows only the relevant tools for the mechanical, electrical or plumbing engineering user, providing consistency across project drawings. You can organize the tool palette to specific company or individual preferences. Now engineers, designers and drafters can easily modify for size, shape, system type and much more by in-place editing of the tool palette. Simply select the tools you want to change and modify the common properties at once, streamlining the design process and improving productivity. Autodesk Presentation Title

6 Single Line & Double Line Piping
Single line and double line by size Scaled fittings for plotting clarity In Autodesk Building Systems 2007 the user will be able to assign which pipes, pipe fittings, flex pipes, custom pipe fittings, and MvParts will be displayed in double line, single line, or graphical 1-line by pipe size. Now you can show a mixed representation of double line and single within the same drawing. For small size pipe, you might want to show it in graphical 1-line. The valves and fittings will use schematic symbols that will scale depending on the drawing scale. For double and single line the fittings and valves will maintain it’s true size. Your settings will be maintain in both model and plan view. This will allow you to show your construction documents the way you want. Benefit… create concise and accurate construction documents that clearly represent your designs Autodesk Presentation Title

7 More Grips & On Screen Editing
Grips to flip, move, array, rotate Edit on screen Sticky move With more grips and on screen editing, you can enhance your design productivity by focusing on the design and documentation rather than the command line. Use grips to flip takesoffs, fittings, inline equipment such as valves and much, much more. Use grips to lengthen pipe, duct, cabletrays, and conduit and put in the desired length by using the on screen dynamic dimensions. Sticky move allows you to move equipment or fittings and the connected system run moves with it. This will increase your production speed when making modifications to your design. Benefit… speed up productivity by focusing on design and documentation Autodesk Presentation Title

8 Properties Palette Activity Based Relevant information first Autodesk Building Systems easily makes all modify/properties available for any duct fitting, pipe fitting, part or equipment. Any type of modification to any system, fitting, part or equipment can be accomplished with the property palette. The layer, color, part name, size or system are easy to access at the top of the properties palette. Items like insulation and calculation settings are there for those that want them, but moved down in the properties palette. You can change anything from layer to color, or change the parting or fitting to a completely different part. Benefit… Make changes easily from one easy to access location on your workspace Autodesk Presentation Title

9 Context Menu Tools and commands where needed Tools on objects Conversion tools Increase your speed and productivity with tools and commands that are a right click away. In conjunction with changes to menus and tool palettes, Autodesk Building Systems is putting tools and commands where they are needed. We put object-specific functions on the context menu. So "Convert to device", "Convert to MvPart", and other commands like "Add Reference Anchor" are found on the objects that can use them. Example: Polyline will have Convert to Schematic Line, Schematic Pipe, Flex Pipe, Flex Duct, etc. on its right-click menu. Also, for those objects going to the palette, the many part-changing places will go away. No longer will there be "Duct Fitting Properties...", "Duct Fitting Modify..." and "Properties" on the same menu! For modifying a part, for looking at properties, for changing information about the part, you go to the Properties Palette and that's it. Benefit… Increase speed and production with tools and commands a right click away Autodesk Presentation Title

10 Piping Catalog Organization
Adapted to the way you design Grouped by type, fitting type, and connection type Benefit enormously from the new pipe catalog that has been consolidated and organized the way you work, for ease of use and to increase your speed and productivity,.  Pipe and fittings are now grouped by (commercial type, tube, cast iron), then by fitting type (elbow, cross, tee, etc), and then by connection type (butt welded, flanged, grooved, etc).  The catalog size was reduced considerably by eliminating redundant items.  Also, many new part families were added to support new piping features. Benefit… Organized for ease of use to increase speed and productivity Autodesk Presentation Title

13 Templates for Company Standards
Location for company standards System definitions, layer key styles Drawing consistency Templates are the primary location to store and implement company standards. Drawing consistency is maintained by using templates to make all of your construction documents the same. All of the system definitions, layer key styles, device styles, annotation labels, and other standards are managed and maintained in the templates, so if your company standards change, simply modify it here and all drawings can be updated using the template. The templates also store the routing preferences for duct, piping, conduit and cable tray. Enjoy all of the out-of-the-box settings stored in the template that help you to get started quickly. Benefit… Easily manage company standards using templates Autodesk Presentation Title

14 Convert AutoCAD 2D Symbols to Autodesk Building Systems Content
Convert AutoCAD blocks Convert symbols Batch convert all Create your construction documents using your existing AutoCAD 2D blocks and symbols as Autodesk Building Systems devices and schematic symbols. Quickly and easily convert a 2D block to a device using the “ConvertDevice” command. You can also convert multiple 2D blocks to devices and schematic symbols using the Autodesk Building Systems batch device converter tool. Migrating to Autodesk Building Systems is now faster than ever. You can also convert blocks to MVParts to greatly increase library of parts and equipment. Benefit… easily convert existing 2D symbols and blocks to Autodesk Building Systems content Autodesk Presentation Title

15 Work with Enhanced AutoCAD Commands in Autodesk Building Systems
Copy, snap, align in 1step Array along duct, pipe, conduit Since Autodesk Building Systems is built on AutoCAD, you will save training time by using the AutoCAD commands that you are used to. Some AutoCAD commands have been enhanced in Autodesk Building Systems and will increase your speed and productivity by using one command instead of three separate commands to accomplish the same task. Now you can copy or move, rotate, and align in one easy step. Simply select items like a pipe segment and valve that is on a horizontal branch that you wish to copy to a vertical run, and it will automatically rotate the pipe segment and valve to the correct orientation, then snap and align correctly to the vertical run. ABS will array entire branch runs along duct, pipe, conduit or cable tray, while snapping to the existing or new run. Benefit… increase productivity using one command instead of three Autodesk Presentation Title

16 Migration Tools Migrate drawing standards Templates, convert to device On-screen editing and more Autodesk Building Systems migration tools will help you migrate from AutoCAD. These tools help you to re-use existing AutoCAD blocks as devices. They also help you to migrate your company layering and drawing standards. The migration tools include but are not limited to templates, menus, on screen editing, convert-to-device, and many more. The migration tools will help you create quality construction documents more quickly and easily. Use ABS to migrate your drawing standards for access by all of your projects. Benefit… Easily and quickly migrate from AutoCAD using ABS specific migration tools Autodesk Presentation Title

17 Enhanced Content Builder
Use Primitives to create content Simple 3D shapes Save equipment info on part Quickly and easily create content such as fittings, parts and equipment. With the simplified content builder, use the Primitives command to create content from simple 3D shapes like box, cylinder, or sphere. You don’t need to learn advanced 3D commands to create the equipment and parts to create quality construction documents. Add connectors as primitive shapes with all of the connector information already on them! Create new content in 2 or 3 steps instead of 20. It is easy to save custom data like manufacturing information to multiple parts with the simplified content builder. 19 Construction Documents
Color & Linetype Preserved in Sections Pipe Display by Size Separate Connectors Annotation Capabilities in Content Builder Automated Hatching Support Autodesk Inventor Construction Documents Autodesk Presentation Title

20 Color/Linetype Preserved in Sections
Display sections accurately Layer, color & linetypes preserved Sections in seconds not hours Benefit… easily plot sections based on your specific color/ linetype standards Dramatically increase your speed and productivity with accurate sections and elevations that are created quickly and easily that plot to your specific color/linetype standard. Layer, color and linetypes are preserved as they are in plan. They look like sections should with hidden lines and lineweights included. All features are automatically created when you cut the section whether in the same drawing or on a separate sections and elevations sheet. Sections are created in seconds rather than hours. This is a major time saver over AutoCAD. Autodesk Presentation Title

21 Pipe Display by Size Display small pipe as single line Use pipe size to determine display Route by pressure class Create quality construction documents that display piping clearly and accurately. Autodesk Building Systems gives you the ability to have the auto-routing put in fitting based on the size of the pipe during layout.  This gives you freedom to define specific parts for auto routing and it will dynamically change as you change the size in the add dialog. The Routing Preference are also available on the Properties Palette to enable a change to full runs of piping to different pipe objects based on the size and routing preference. Be able to define the display of piping, inline and anchored pipe components as 2-line, 1-line, or graphical 1-line based on the size of the pipe and the system.  Single line and double line piping will be enabled in the Plan and Model display reps. Select the pressure class and type of flange when routing the piping. Benefit… Create construction documents that display and plot piping with clarity Autodesk Presentation Title

22 Separate Connectors Benefit… layout piping the way it’s designed
Two types of connectors on pipe Flanged, threaded, grooved & more Accurate pipe length Display piping the way it is designed for accurate construction documents. You have the freedom to mix and match connector objects on each end of pipe. The connectors available in Autodesk Building Systems are Flanged, Threaded, Socket Welded, Glued, and Grooved. The number of connectors are added or removed based on the cut length and type of connection. The connectors are separate objects which can then be reported on quantity take-offs.  The engagement length of the connector is a parameter which will be added to the length of the pipe object which will enable more accurate lengths of pipe reported for the pipe quantity take-off. Benefit… layout piping the way it’s designed Autodesk Presentation Title

23 Annotation Capabilities in Content Builder
Created scaled schematic blocks Add text to annotation of parts Use a 2D block to show in plan view with annotation for clarity of your construction documents. Autodesk Building Systems will allow you to display a schematic view of an object rather than the model generated view. You can create a schematic block and/or annotation that scales with the changing size of the part. For example, you can use a standard schematic block of a damper instead of the top view of the model damper. The reason you would want to do this, is because the actual damper looks exactly like duct and you will not be able to easily identify all dampers in the project. Benefit… display parts based on view (plan/section) Autodesk Presentation Title

24 Automated Hatching Support
Hatch by theme Hatch systems by size, velocity Benefit… clearly identify design intent with hatching to check for accurate design layout Identify your design intent using hatching themes to check for the accuracy of your design and layout. Duct, piping, conduit and cable trays can be hatched according to size, velocity, friction, load or pressure classes. Easily identify runs that are overloaded to prevent RFI’s or design changes later in the project that are costly to modify later. You can also save the themes to your company standard template for access on all of your projects. Autodesk Presentation Title

25 Autodesk Inventor Access content for ABS Greater library of equipment Linked to your MEP design Benefit… Increase library of equipment for your design Autodesk Inventor will give Autodesk Building Systems an even better library of equipment from manufacturers. The library of equipment will continue to increase as manufacturers use Inventor to create their products. Inventor will create intelligent content to be used in ABS. Autodesk Building Systems can use the equipment created by inventor without any additional modifications. Connecting to duct and piping will be a snap because the intelligent connectors are already created with Inventor. Autodesk Presentation Title

26 And Don’t Forget… And don’t forget… Autodesk Presentation Title

27 Spaces and Zones Analysis & square footage data Vertical adjacencies for gbXML Benefit… Easily store and retrieve room information in one location Store and retrieve room information from the drawing in one location. Engineering space requirements and architectural room information are contained together. ABS allows vertical adjacencies for gbXML to be exported and then imported back into the drawing from third party analysis programs such as Trane Trace All analysis and square footage information will be stored in the drawing file rather than in a thick document report that you have tunnel through to find the information that you are looking for. Autodesk Presentation Title

28 Export to AutoCAD Accurate graphic representation 100% visual fidelity Benefit… confidently deliver accurate standard AutoCAD files Confidently export Autodesk Building Systems drawings to AutoCAD with 100% visual fidelity. Now you can be sure that what you see in the ABS drawing will be exactly what you see in AutoCAD. All equipment, systems runs, and devices will have complete, true, and accurate graphic representation for ABS to AutoCAD. Export your ABS drawing files to AutoCAD for the extended design team that may only have AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT. Autodesk Presentation Title

36 Autodesk Design Review 2007 Streamline reviews and team collaboration
Markup Measure Annotate Stamp Custom Symbols Communicate Changes Auto-tracking Combine Project Documents Round-trip Reviews With the upcoming release, you’ll notice that we’ve changed the name of Autodesk DWF Composer to Autodesk Design Review. Why? -1) after a great deal of feedback from you (sales/resellers), we performed market research with our current and prospective customers. It confirmed that while we are building awareness for the “DWF Composer” name, we are not building equity in the product as a product for “design reviews”. Most thought it was a product to publish DWF files. We didn’t take changing the name lightly but believe that the change, by going to a very descriptive name, will allow you to quickly start talking not about what the product is; but rather move quickly to talking about its benefits to customers. Autodesk Design Review is the ideal software for Team members who do not typically use CAD software but participate in the design review process. These include: Building: A&E who work with a draftsperson for internal reviews; Extern collaboration with clients, contractors, consultants Manufacturing: Securely sharing designs w/ suppliers; Collaborate w/ purchasing agents; Enable comments by Repair/ Service & support teams Infrastructure: Telco, utilities, and government internal review cycles, and field staff reviewing drawings remotely The Main benefit: Accelerates design review process with: Purpose-built tools to markup, measure and annotate 2D & 3D designs Ability to combine all project information into single file Automatic markup and status-tracking Ability to “round-trip” markups, through integration with Autodesk design applications The process is simple: The designer sends their design to the team member. Using Autodesk Design Review, they can open up that file without needing AutoCAD or other design software. Mark it up. Take measurements. Annotate the design. Add a stamp or other custom symbols. All the markups are automatically tracked in Autodesk Design Review’s markup browser, so no information is lost. Additional project information, like an estimate, product spec, or picture from the field can be dropped into Design Review – to create a complete package of information as it relates to that communication back to the designer or project manager. Once all the changes are made, the DWF file is saved and sent back to the designer. The markups can be read into AutoCAD’s Markup Set Manager, or any Autodesk design software, for a round-trip review process. This round-trip review process was new with our AutoCAD 2005 release and something our customers *Who Have Not Upgraded* have missed with the last 2 releases of AutoCAD. For customers who need their data and processes managed – they can purchase Autodesk Buzzsaw, Autodesk ProductStream and Autodesk Streamline – which have Autodesk Design Review built right in.
