For Watercraft that work like your Car, You need Intelligent propulsion. Jeff Jordan, President IntelliJet Marine, Inc. Supported by Art Anderson Associates

2 Jun 08 2 What If... What if your car had only one gear?  It would work like a Model “T”...... Or like a boat.  You couldn’t change gears to operate more efficiently at different speeds or when you had a greater load.  You couldn’t use a computer to shift gears to minimize fuel consumption at your current speed and load.

2 Jun 08 3 Now... imagine a boat that works like your car. Where a computer controls the motor and the transmission, so the system operates at peak efficiency over wide ranges of acceleration, speed, and load. This is what IntelliJET provides, and more.....

2 Jun 08 4 This Presentation will show you  What the benefits of IntelliJet are  Why IntelliJet works  How IntelliJet works  How IntelliJet provides its benefits

2 Jun 08 5 What the Benefits of IntelliJet Are Very high fuel efficiency Both high-speed and heavy-load capable Maneuverable at all speeds and conditions Size and weight savings High reliability and maintainability Safe operations Shallow draft capability Stealth characteristics

2 Jun 08 6 Why IntelliJet Works

2 Jun 08 7 Formula Discussion Thrust force is proportional to the dynamic power of the jet divided by the velocity of the jet. To double the force, you can either double the power or reduce the velocity by 50%. Marine propulsion has traditionally relied on a bigger motor. IntelliJet concentrates on reducing the velocity, and it is in good company. Reducing the velocity has been a winning strategy for the increasingly high-bypass turbofans on Boeing’s airplanes. The higher the bypass ratio, the lower the velocity of the jet, the lower the noise, and the lower the fuel consumption. Modern jet fighters commonly use variable bypass turbojets and variable nozzles to reduce the jet velocity. Even NASA’s rockets employ convergent/divergent nozzles to reduce velocity and maximize thrust.

2 Jun 08 17 How IntelliJet Provides Its Benefits Both High Speed and Heavy Load Efficiency

2 Jun 08 18 Explanation of Graph The previous graph illustrates the selection of a conventional marine jet to meet boat speed requirements in a given application. The selected “Conventional Jet Thrust” curve is adequate to the speed requirements. This curve is approximate to the full power of the motor and is the only line on which the conventional jet system operates the motor efficiently with its one gear. The propulsion system is actually required to operate anywhere in the cross hatched area. Running the conventional jet in the lower part of the area is like driving your car down the highway in second gear. The IntelliJet operates efficiently over the whole hatched area by minimizing motor rpm, just like a continuously variable transmission in a Toyota Prius or Ford Taurus. In minimizing rpm it also minimizes jet velocity to achieve the highest possible thrust from any give power input.

2 Jun 08 19 How IntelliJet Provides Its Benefits Both High-speed and Heavy-load Efficiency The embedded microcontroller program regulates:  The pump to maintain motor efficiency and low velocity.  The nozzle to maintain pump efficiency.  The inlet to maintain recovery efficiency. So the total system operates at peak efficiency at all speeds and under all loads and accelerations.

2 Jun 08 20  Motor efficiency increased 20% +/-  Exhaust emissions minimized  Twice as much thrust for any given motor power  Fuel consumption vs. fixed-vane pump  Up to 20% reduction in motor fuel consumption  50% reduction in power demand by reduced velocity  Up to 60% reduction in fuel consumption  Advantage reduced with higher boat speed How IntelliJet Provides Its Benefits Both High-speed and Heavy-load Efficiency

2 Jun 08 21 How IntelliJet Provides Its Benefits Size and Weight Savings Larger diameter pump, yet smaller envelope without a reversing bucket Inlet molded or welded into hull Eliminates casting and machining of massive inlet duct Thrust bearing in stator behind propeller Regular inboard motor mounting

2 Jun 08 22 How IntelliJet Provides Its Benefits High Maneuverability at All Speeds  Familiar single-handle control or any other  Shift quickly without reducing RPM  Quick steering response  Multiple program selection – set it & forget it modes  Maximum performance when detection is unavoidable  Suppress Cavitation Noise when avoiding detection  Maximum fuel economy for cruising

2 Jun 08 23 How IntelliJet Provides its Benefits
