Theodore Dwight Weld By Cole Lenihan

Personal information Theodore Dwight Weld was born on November 23,1803 in Hampton, Connecticut. Weld was at a disadvantage because when it came to school (Phillips Andover Academy) he had to withdraw due to health problems. Helping establish Lane Theological Seminary was his key to success. First being a student there, then later he became a professor.

A devoted Abolitionist Weld had left Lane Theological Seminary three years because they had prohibited discussion of slavery and Weld being an Abolitionist had problems with not being able to discuss the issues with it. Weld became the editor of the Anti-slavery Society. Weld now having a bit of time and the possibility, wrote “ The bible against slavery.”

The Bible Against Slavery Weld now having a bit of time and the possibility, wrote “ The bible against slavery.” It was a pamphlet that lead beliefs of a Congregationalist and the fight against the slave trade and slavery. It explained mostly the religious views in abolition ad explained its real meaning.

The Grimke Sisters Two of the most famous abolitionist speakers of this time were the Grimke sisters. Weld being known as a strong believer of anti-slavery help train these sisters. Later In 1838 he married Angelina. The worked with John Quincy Adams to establish an interracial school and succeeded in New Jersey in 1850.

The Weld Connection Theodore being the most known back in the late 1800’s. He became popular now because of his relative former Massachusetts governor William Floyd Weld. Who reduced taxes and and changed the Business “Climate”- 2010 commonwealth of Massachusetts.
