R O M A N S chapter two I. An introduction to Romans [1:1-17] For there is no partiality with God Pauls declaration that the gospel reveals the righteousness of God is from faith, so that the power of God to salvation may extend to ALL who believe [16-17]

I. An introduction to Romans [1:1-17] For there is no partiality with God II. ALL are condemned [1:18 – 3:20] R O M A N S chapter two A. the righteousness of God is revealed from faith because the wrath of God is revealed… against all ungodliness…of men who suppress the truth [1:18- 19] B. all men have become without excuse [1:20] because they have rejected the righteous judgment of God by doing and approving things deserving of death [1:32] C. Therefore YOU are inexcusable [2:1-11]
4
…you are inexcusable… [2:1-11] All are without excuse; even you! [2:1] Your judging of others proves you know the righteous judgment of God! [cp. 1:19, 32] For there is no partiality with God cp. Luke 18:9-14; the judge was not the one who went down to his house justified R O M A N S chapter two Your failure to live up to the standard you use to judge others therefore condemns yourself! Judges are merely flawed men who must also be governed by the laws they defend!
5
…you are inexcusable… [2:1-11] All are without excuse; even you! [2:1] For there is no partiality with God It is Gods judgment that will make sure that even the judges are objectively judged! [2:3] R O M A N S chapter two Knowing the law so well that you can judge others is not an end in itself; you must also do what the law says! [cp. James 1:22-25] God is only one to judge by truth! [2:2-3] It is easy for the judge to think he can escape judgment because of all he knows; but in a system of law, he too will be judged in accord with what the law says! God is righteous, just!
6
…you are inexcusable… [2:1-11] All are without excuse; even you! [2:1] For there is no partiality with God Some wrongly saw His forbearance as proof they had escaped His judgment [cp. 2 Pt 3:9] R O M A N S chapter two Some despised His mercy, using it as an excuse to continue in sin [cp. Romans 6:1-2] God is only one to judge by truth! [2:2-3] Gods mercy is for your repentance [2:4]
7
…you are inexcusable… [2:1-11] All are without excuse; even you! [2:1] For there is no partiality with God law judges all men according to…deeds [2:6] R O M A N S chapter two cp. this idea further developed in Rom 10:4-5 God is only one to judge by truth! [2:2-3] Gods mercy is for your repentance [2:4] If you desire a judgment of God based on law, your only hope is wrath [2:5-6] Paul wants them to understand the need for and importance of a righteousness of God that comes from FAITH, not law! [cp. Rom 4:5-8]
8
…you are inexcusable… [2:1-11] All are without excuse; even you! [2:1] For there is no partiality with God either those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory… or those who are self-seeking and do not obey the truth [2:7-8] R O M A N S chapter two This is not salvation by law; [Abraham, David] God is only one to judge by truth! [2:2-3] Gods mercy is for your repentance [2:4] If you desire a judgment of God based on law, your only hope is wrath [2:5-6] Gods righteous judgment on all [2:7-11]:

No one can belong to Christ and pursue a life of vileness. He who doeth righteousness is righteous (1 John 3:7). While the man in Christ doesnt have to be flawless in works, he must be one who pursues holiness… The man or woman outside of Christ will have to face the demand for flawless living. You see, those outside of Christ choose to stand on their own performance. Without Christ…they have only their own record to appeal to. …without Christ transgressions are imputed but to those who are justified by faith in Christ sins are not imputed (Romans 4:8). - Jim McGuiggan …eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality… Romans 2:7
10
…you are inexcusable… [2:1-11] All are without excuse; even you! [2:1] For there is no partiality with God either the patient or the self-seeking [2:7-8] R O M A N S chapter two who does evil or who works…good; not by the law; Jew and Greek judged same way God is only one to judge by truth! [2:2-3] Gods mercy is for your repentance [2:4] If you desire a judgment of God based on law, your only hope is wrath [2:5-6] Gods righteous judgment on all [2:7-10]: either eternal life or indignation and wrath
11
…you are inexcusable… [2:1-11] All are without excuse; even you! [2:1] For there is no partiality with God R O M A N S chapter two This should frighten; if the law will come down hard on the Greek, it will also come down hard on the Jew! [by faith is a much better way!] God is only one to judge by truth! [2:2-3] Gods mercy is for your repentance [2:4] If you desire a judgment of God based on law, your only hope is wrath [2:5-6] Gods righteous judgment on all [2:7-10] For there is no partiality with God[2:11]

Therefore YOU are inexcusable [2:1-11] D. Doers, not hearers will be justified [2:12-16]
13
as many as have sinned [2:12-16] The problem is SIN – not a lack of laws! With a law or not, sin condemns! [2:12] Therefore, all will be judged by Jesus, according to my gospel; the gospel declares that law will not be the basis for judgment, but faith in Christ [2:16] For there is no partiality with God R O M A N S chapter two God knows how to justify the one who does what righteousness requires [2:13] Both Jew and Greek heard Gods law; they accuse or excuse themselves in their thoughts [2:14-15; cp. Acts 17:28]

15
...God is blasphemed… [2:17-24] Jews likely saying Amen! up to now; but here the lesson comes home… In a profound way the Jew dishonored God when he rejected the law of Moses [2:23-24; cp. Isa 52:3-5; Ezek 36:16-23] For there is no partiality with God R O M A N S chapter two You are the man! – The guilty judge metaphor was describing the Jews also! The Jew had a deeper knowledge of Gods truth, but yet disobeyed! [2:20-21] Gods punishment of the Jews sins caused Him to be blasphemed! It was THEIR fault!

17
…a Jew…is one inwardly [2:25-29] Circumcision, like hearing only matters if it is coupled with doing the law [2:25] The one who seeks justification by law seeks praise from men, not God! [2:29] For there is no partiality with God R O M A N S chapter two The uncircumcised, if he does what the law says to do, will judge (righteously!) the unrighteous and disobedient Jew! Circumcision was technically invisible – was meant to change heart, not flesh! baptism is invisible, but change to be visible
18
HOWEVER… …the gospel of Christ…is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes… For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith… Does your own conscience accuse you? You need the gospel offer of righteousness (justification)…from faith! Wont you believe and OBEY today? as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law… [Rom 1:32; cp. 3:23; 6:23]
