Traditional News Sources: sometimes referred to as “old” or “mainstream” media; traditional news sources include print media, such as newspapers, and broadcast media, such as radio and television. Non-traditional News Sources – sometimes referred to as “new media”; non-traditional news sources include social media (websites and applications used for social networking), as well as news sources that can be found on the internet.

Social Media – websites and applications used for social networking, the use of dedicated websites and applications to communicate informally with other users, or to find people with similar interests to oneself. Blogs – personal websites or web pages on which an individual records opinions on a regular basis.

Blogosphere – blogs, or personal websites and web pages on which an individual records opinions on a regular basis, and personal websites on the Internet are referred to collectively as the blogosphere. Citizen Reporters – reporters that work outside of the mainstream media. Citizen reporters may not have professional training as journalists, but still operate under the same ethical guidelines as “traditional” journalists.
