The American Revolution “Show What You Know!”
2
Once upon a time, there was a place called the…. Ohio River Valley
3
What two countries fought over this territory? What was the name of this war? British (Britain)France (France) French and Indian War
4
Why were they fighting over this territory? Well…… The British saw the land as an area for trade and growth. And…. The French felt it was an important link between France’s holdings in Canada and Louisiana.
5
Ok…so now that we know who fought the French and Indian War, Can anyone tell me who won this war? The British
6
So guys and gals, I want to know what YOU think the outcome of the French & Indian war was ?` 10 seconds to discuss this with your elbow partner! GO! Did any of you say ‘The Proclamation of 1763?’ If so, GOOD! If not, let’s learn!
7
PROCLAMATION of 1763 After Britain defeated France in the war, they gained control of most of the French-owned land. British colonists began to claim and buy land in this region and this made the Indians (who were still living in this area by the way) very angry! Think: What would you do if someone came on your property and began claiming it as their own?
8
That’s Right! –Proclamation 1763 You’d probably fight for what is yours! So, in order to stop all the fighting between the British colonists and the Indians, King George III issued a proclamation to his colonists stating: British colonists could not buy land west of the Appalachians, hunt on it or explore it. Settlers that were living there were ordered to leave at once. Lands west off the Appalachians were to be used by the Native Americans only!
9

They were disguised as Mohawk Indians and broke open 342 tea chests and dumped tea into the harbor. Smuggling-illegally importing goods to avoid paying taxes
23
Intolerable Acts/Coercive Acts The intolerable acts were a new series of laws that were passed to punish the colonists of Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party.
24
Intolerable Acts/Coercive Acts The first of these laws closed the port of Boston until colonists paid for the tea they destroyed. The second law stopped Massachusetts from making laws The last law ordered the colonists to feed and provide shelter for British soldiers. Some colonists were required to take soldiers in their home.
25
