2. Sunni vs. Shiite Islam
Sunni believes that the first four caliphs rightfully took the place of muhammed as successors to lead the Muslims.
Shiites believe that only heirs of the fourth caliph, Ali, are the true successors of muhammed.
Also that Mahdi is the “Rightly Guided One”. The Sunnis believe that he hasn’t come yet, the Shiites believe that he has been here and is going to return.

3. Islam and Afghan Culture
Islam is practiced by the majority of Afghanis and governs much of their personal, political, economic and legal lives.
Family is the single most important thing in Afghan culture, this goes along with the islam prohibition against parents.
Certain obligations for Muslims are to pray five times a day - at dawn, noon, afternoon, sunset, and evening.

4. Basic Tenets of Islam Declaration of Faith
This is what people say to become Muslim, and it is repeated during prayer, in the call to prayer, and at other times during the day.
Prayer
Muslims are supposed to make five daily ritual prayers – dawn, noon, and another in the afternoon, at sunset, and before bed.
Giving Charity
Muslims are required to give of their bounty to those who have less. This is called Zakat.
Fasting For Ramadan
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Muslims fast from dawn until dusk. They abstain from food, water, sex, cigarettes, gossip, anger, backbiting, and other negative behaviors.
Pilgrimage and Hajj
If they are financially and physically able, Muslims are required to make a pilgrimage, or hajj, to Mecca once during their lives

5. Similar Beliefs Christianity
Both religions are Monotheistic meaning they only believe in one single God.
judaisim, islam, and Christianity all have certain days of worship.
Judaism
Both Islam and judaism are strictly monotheistic and only believe in the one God while Christianity believes in the father, the son, and the holy spirit.

6. Although Christianity, Judaism, and Islam have some similar beliefs they also have a lot of different beliefs such as Judaism does not recognize the inspiration of the New Testament, Christians don’t recognize the inspiration of the Qur’an and Muslims don’t believe that the Old and New testaments are trustworthy revelation today.

7. A Few Examples of Prohibitions and Obligations
To disrespect ones parents
To commit murder, adultery or fornication.
To Take illegal interest in trade.
To take Gods name in vain.
To Drink intoxicating liquors
Belief in the justice of God.
To say daily prayers.
To pay religious dues
To fast during the months of Ramadan.
To provide children with religious education.
