An overview When looking for a job, most people look in the classified ad section of the newspaper.

An overview In most papers, ads are arranged alphabetically in order according to the job. Since ads are short, people use abbreviations a lot.

An overview When we look in the index, we might see listings such as: –Job opportunities –Help wanted –Employment –Employment Opportunities

An Overview Often there are sub- listings for these sections to make our search easier: –Transportation –Restaurants –Cooks –Diswashers –General Help –Wait persons

An overview If we want a job as a cook for example, we can look in the section labeled “cooks” and know that certain jobs are available. This saves time so we don’t have to read other ads.

Skills Personal skills: what you have learned and what you are able to do based on learning and experience.

Skills Interests: include your feelings about the job and its requirements. Also, hours, benefits, location, conditions, and salary.

Assignment Directions Using the classified section of the newspaper, identify several (**at least 5**) jobs for which you are qualified.

Assignment Directions Using the ads, create a list of advantages and disadvantages that relate to your personal skills and interests.

Directions In a few sentences, write down WHY you chose those particular jobs. Lastly, write down how you would go about trying to get an interview or a meeting together.
