What is Milfoil Milfoil is a devastating aquatic plant that is infesting lakes in Maine, as well as other parts of the country.
5
Milfoil It grows in the photic zone (shallow waters) between 12 to 24inches of water depth. It chokes out other native plants, as well as makes it difficult for aquatic animals to navigate through the water.
6
Check your boat!! Inspect your boat every time you launch or trailer your boat in any body of water. Rinse your boat, or let it dry naturally when you get home.
7
If you find milfoil, dispose of it properly! *Be sure to capture the entire plant--parts left behind can continue to reproduce! *Do not dump water with milfoil pieces back into the lake! Dispose of this water in land far from water. *Compost the milfoil away from water. (Tips from Mascoma Lake Association)
