Mitosis Ethan Bleakney, Izzy Bailey, Zoe Copp, Ethan Copp, Madi Drawdy November 9, 2014 Derived from multiple Web sources, my Dad and a presentation from a Teacher in CA… Mr Alvarez

Overview Mitosis is the process of nuclear cell division. During division, the nucleus of the cell divides, resulting in two sets of identical chromosomes, or organized DNA proteins. This process is almost always accompanied by a process called cytokinesis, in which the rest of the cell divides, leading to two completely separate cells, called daughter cells. http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-mitosis.htm OriginalDaughter Mitosis In mitosis, a cell replicates its DNA before dividing into two daughter cells

Purpose http://www.wisegeek.org/what-is-mitosis.htm One of the main purposes of this process is the natural growth of the parent organism. It's also done to replace cells that are worn out, damaged, or just at the end of their natural lifespan. The average length of the mitosis process is 20-24 hours.

4 Phases Length of Process is 6 total phases, but there are four phases in the Mitosis process that we discuss. The other two phases are a period of quick growth of the cell then getting ready to begin mitosis again… Interphase Prophase Metaphase Anaphase Telophase Cytokinesis There are a number of reasons for this process, including Reproduction Replacement of cells Growth

Asexual Reproduction Asexual reproduction is a mode of reproduction where offspring come from one organism and inherit the exact DNA from one parent. Usually there are two twin cells called daughter cells. Organisms that use asexual reproduction Plants and fungi Single celled organisms Archaea, bacteria, and protists

Budding and Regeneration Regeneration is when an organism loses a limb and regrows it and budding is when an organism grows an entire new copy of itself. Examples of regeneration: Starfish Lizard Examples of budding: Fungus Bacteria
