House Bill (HB) 2244 Filed by State Rep. Zerwas - 84th Legislature Signed by the Governor -June 10, 2015 and effective immediately Section 5 - No later than June 1, 2016, the TCEQ shall adopt rules to implement the changes made by this Act. The rules must be adopted in the form of a new chapter of the Texas Administrative Code that includes all rules of the commission relating to medical waste regulation. Also states that rules adopted to implement the change must minimize the effect on other rules regulating municipal solid waste facilities. Slide #2

Scope of HB 2244 Requires: Extracting rules from Ch. 330 regarding: water pollution control and water quality aspects; air pollution control and ambient air quality aspects; and the protection of human health and safety as they relate to medical waste Adopting rules relating to Ch. 330, Subchapter E and other portions that apply to medical waste facilities, such as: buffer zones storage times, and container labeling requirements Slide #3

Scope of HB 2244 (cont.) The new rules must address: procedural requirements for applications site development notice duration and limits for authorizations Existing authorizations not required to comply unless they choose to modify and/or seek new authorization Slide #4
