Critical Analysis of Art Aesthetic Scanning—Sensory, Expressive, Formal, and/or Technical Properties [SEFT] Sensory—color, texture, value, shape, space, line/What can the viewer see? Expressive—Subject matter? Meaning? What symbols, representation colors, line, forms communicate the idea/how? Mood? Formal—How does the final form achieve unity, balance, and harmony? Organization? Focal point? Point of emphasis? Repetition? Patterns? How does the organization relate to the idea of the artifact? Does the organization contribute to perception of the whole? Technical—Materials? Methods of use? Artist’s unique use? How does the artist’s technique or method contribute to understanding the piece as a whole?
