Project Guidelines News Report: Traveling Back in Time Class 4: Review
16
News Report News reporters are journalists who travel to different locations to research a topic. Then, they report what they have learned to an audience, either in a speech or in writing. Refer back to the article “Korea: Past and Present.” How has Korean culture changed from the past to the present? Is there anything that has stayed the same?
17
You will create the following: Venn diagrams that compare past and present Korean culture A news report that describes the changes that have taken place
18
You will complete two steps: 1. Create three Venn diagrams that compare and contrast Korean clothing, homes, and transportation of the past and present. 2. Write a news report by pretending that you have gone back in time to see what Korean culture was like long ago. NOTE: If you would like to include more information in your news report, you may do additional research on Korean culture. Refer to the PBL website for extra online articles.
19
Step 1: Make Venn diagrams. Complete the Venn diagrams with information from the article “Korea: Past and Present.” To complete a Venn diagram, fill in the left and right sides of the diagram with information about each topic. Information that is similar or shared between the two topics goes in the middle where the two circles overlap.
20
Step 1: Make Venn diagrams. Look at the example below about bats and birds. BATS BIRDS BOTH - they fly - have wings - live in trees - are warm- blooded - have feathers - make nests - have beaks - have no teeth - sleep at night - hatch from eggs - some can swim - hang upside down - sleep during the day - are mammals - are born alive - have teeth - have fur
21
Step 2: Write a news report. Pretend that you are a news reporter who has gone back in time to see what Korean culture was like in the past. Write a news report about Korean clothing, Korean homes, or Korean transportation. A good news report is creative, informative, and interesting. Your news report must include an introduction, middle, and ending. Use the writing guide on pg. 22 to help you write a news report.
22
Presentation Tips Create a larger copy of your Venn diagram to use during the presentation. Draw or find pictures from the Internet or in magazines and newspapers to include in your presentation. Point to certain sections of your Venn diagram during your presentation so that the audience knows what you are talking about. Write out your report on small cards that you can refer to during your presentation. Practice your presentation ahead of time so that you become familiar with your report and the expressions that you will use.
