So Teach Us to Number Our Days Psalm 90:12
2
Psalm 90:Background Psalm 90 is attributed to Moses Theme: God’s eternity versus man’s brevity The eternity of God (vv. 1-2) The brevity of man (vv. 3-11) The conclusion (v. 12)
3
“So teach us…” “So teach us…” = a conclusion; an application Since God is eternal and man’s life is brief, we need to be taught something (v. 12) Since God’s wrath will be upon the sins of man, we need to be taught something (v. 12; note that Moses witnessed the wrath of God firsthand throughout is life)
4
“To number our days…” Their brief number (v. 10; 1 Chron. 29:15; Job 8:9; Jas. 4:12-14) How many of them are already spent (Rom. 13:11; 2 Pet. 1:14) How uncertain the number remains How many of them are occupied with the necessary duties of life
5
“To number our days…” What afflictions may accompany them (Job 1) What effect sin may have on them (Heb. 12;17) How they appear in the light of eternity (Lk. 16:19-26) How we might use them for the Lord (Lk. 1:75)
6
“That we may get a heart of wisdom…” In our work (Prov. 6:6-11; 20:4) In our money (Prov. 22:7) In our time (2 Cor. 6:1; Eph. 5:16-17) In our associations (1 Cor. 15:33; Col. 4:5) In the church (1 Cor. 11:22)

“That we may get a heart of wisdom…” In our marriage (Eccl. 9:9; Prov. 31:12) In our service to God (Psa. 23:6; 27:4)
