Recording the chief complaint of patient’s problem by: ◦ Face the sitting patient ◦ introduce yourself to the patient ◦ asking why patient is there ◦ recording patient’s answer in patient’s own words ◦ Don’t jump on the tooth at first AFAMS Dental Advisor Team

Social history is a record of the social and familial circumstances of the patient. The dental team should be aware of several factors related to treatment planning and clinical management in order to treat these patients sensitively and effectively. AFAMS Dental Advisor Team

Important issues include behavioral disorders, pain management, cross- infection, medical problems associated with drug abuse, and the ways in which drug abuse and its subsequent treatment affect the dentition. AFAMS Dental Advisor Team
