2 Short summary Six interesting papers & several common ideas Relevant issues for «gaining support from everyone» –Motivations for change Drive from top management, standardization, budget cuts, etc. –Demonstration of process and results Deconstruction of ancient processes, large-scale simulation, etc. –Measuring and documenting benefits Indicators of editing process, etc. –Culture, knowledge and skill Organization culture, staff training, etc.

3 Questions for discussion (1) How to get support from the data editing staff ? –Training: not too theoretical, of course. But how little? –Work: avoid too much Taylorisation (?), black-box effect? –Do the skills of the data editing staff have to be different from before? –How to criticize the system but not the people? –Staff debriefing?

4 Questions for discussion (2) How to get support from the top level management? –Implementation of standardized methods / tools always requires leadership in order to overcome unwillingness, or? –How to measure cost savings ‘objectively’? –How much methodological work (scope & depth) is the right balance given the budget, time & staff constraints? –Does data editing apply in the same way for all kinds of statistics (and variables)? What does it mean to be generic?
