15. for every woman YWCA Theory of Change Summary The legacy of the YWCA is a story about women developing and adopting a vision to transform the world around them. In organizational language, we call this a theory of change. The YWCA theory of change is comprised of three components: (1)Five Foundational Assumptions (2)Our Method or Continuum of Response to Social Issues (3)Three Signature Platforms The YWCA Theory of Change informs the Mission Impact Framework. 14

16. for every woman These are the basic assumptions that inform the philosophy, work, style and structure of the YWCA. 15 YWCA Theory of Change Five Foundational Beliefs A social justice framework requires engagement in current issues and concerns.* Democratic practice and plurality are fundamental to the YWCA association model. Social problems should be addressed on multiple levels. Women working across lines of difference can transform and improve life for all women. All women cannot be empowered if we do not address the issues of race and racism.** *As the mission of the YWCA has evolved, a social justice orientation replaced the centrality of religious identity. **This belief was institutionalized in 1946.
