Shell and Tube Heat Exchanger
3
Water Steam Vapor Liquid Condensate Water feed, m 1, is at 20 o C & 1 bar, 100 kg/hr Steam feed, m 4, is saturated vapor at 2 bar Steam condensate, m 5, is saturated liquid at 2 bar If both m 2 and m 3 exist, they are in equilibrium with each other at 2 bar
4
Scenarios Water stream exits as a liquid below saturation temperature Water stream exits as liquid and/or vapor at saturation temperature Water stream exits as a vapor above saturation temperature.
5
Mass/Energy Balances
6
Scenario 2: Water out is at saturation conditions Vary m 2 and calculate m 4
8
Scenario 1: Subcooled liquid out of exchanger Vary m 4 and calculate m 2 temperature
10
Scenario 3: Superheated vapor out of exchanger Vary m 4 and calculate m 3 temperature
