Technology Vision/Plan 2010 www.ipv6forum.com IPv6 Forum Technology Vision/Plan 2010 IPv6 Forum World Congress February 21-23, 2006 Las Vegas, NV Jim Bound CTO IPv6 Forum www.ipv6forum.orgwww.ipv6forum.org HP Senior Fellow

Technology Vision/Plan 2010 www.ipv6forum.com IPv6 Forum 2 Things we have done well (6 years) Technology Education World Wide. Partnerships with Government, Industry, Consortia/Standards Organizations. World Wide Regional Technology Centers of Expertise. Technology corrections for invalid PR in the Market. Network Test Beds and Pilots. IPv6 Forum Logo Program. Development of core Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for IPv6 and networking. Recognized as leader and influential technology body for IPv6 deployment to assist Industry and Governments. Establishment of the CTO Executive Committee. IPv6 Forum Members working in the IETF. And much more to numerous to mention.

Technology Vision/Plan 2010 www.ipv6forum.com IPv6 Forum 3 Things we have not done well There is not one single IPv6 Forum White Paper on the technology advantages of IPv6, or Transition Guidance on IPv6. We lack “how to deploy” IPv6 Deployment Technology White Papers. We are unable to respond to World Wide technology RFI requests in a timely fashion for technology support (e.g. 3GPP2, India TRAI NGN). We are spending to much time using our technical resources chasing marketing and PR issues as an investment. We have lost our common IPv6 Forum technology theme for conferences across regions. We have been unable to attract the Application Providers to IPv6. We have been unable to attract the Consumer DSL/Cable Modem Providers and Manufacturers. We need to support IPv6 Forum and Regional Web Sites far better and keep them up to date. We must continue to keep a check that are marketing is never accused of hype or false claims.

Technology Vision/Plan 2010 www.ipv6forum.com IPv6 Forum 4 Technology Mission and Focus to 2010 Assist the restoration of End-to-End and Peer-to-Peer across the Internet. Assist the mass deployment of Seamless Mobility and Devices using IPv6 across the Internet. Use of IPv6 for 3Gxx and IMS. Applications ported to IPv6 to support 1, 2, and 3 above as primary target. Deployment analysis and input to emerging Industry and Goverment MESH, Ad Hoc Networks, and relative infrastructure components using IPv6. Deployment analysis for Network Security to support End-to-End for both Wired and Wireless networks. Influence and Alignment of IPv6 Forum technology views with selected consortia’s and standards bodies. Develop IPv6 Forum technology influence and positions on World Wide Internet Governance, NGN, and Network Neutrality. Determine how the IPv6 Forum can assist the digital divide technology evolution and business case using IPv6 for deployment.

Technology Vision/Plan 2010 www.ipv6forum.com IPv6 Forum 5 What do we do next and discussion? Adjust and fix what we have not done well, and develop a plan and set of proposals at this World Congress meeting. Enhance and then ratify the list regarding our Technology Vision and Objectives for 2010, and develop a plan and set of proposals. Determine how we can work better together across the IPv6 Forum World Wide to harness the greatest ROI from our technology SMEs, Regional Centers of Expertise, and learning's from our events and activities.
